new to G-RAID but happy so far

We have a small photography and video business and use Macs and until recently, Dells. I have been a long time user of Lacie and WD external drives. Recently we had serious problems with the WD drives and after searching the web reviews, decided to buy two G-Tech units to see what they are like. The Lacies are still perfoming well. I am using the 3-TB G-Drive as my primary working drive and it mounts easily on my iMac. It currently has 1.5 TB of video / image files on it. When I edit with Final Cut I find the drive easily keeps up with my needs. The noise level is ok for me though I tend to turn it off when not editing. I live in a hot climate and the room regularly gets to 27 Celsius before I turn on the a/c. The drive seems to keep itself cool under these conditions which is great for a unit with no fan. My partner is using a 4-TB G-RAID and is similarly pleased with that drive. It handles the Final Cut work easily and quickly while keeping cool with its integrated fan. The LED on the front of both drives is a bit bright but that is my only negative point so far. Good value drives. I will rate them higher if they continue to perform like they do for another year or so.

Fast drive

This is a fast drive. I like that the noise stops when I'm not using it. The reliability is helped by the fact that it sits flat and can't fall over. I will be buying another of the same soon.

Great hard drive

This is a great RAID drive for video production work. I've had one unit that went bad shortly after we started using it, but no problem RMAing it. The only improvement would be if the power switch was a toggle switch instead of the push-to-turn-on PC-like switch, so if you want it to fire up automatically when (for example) flipping the switch on a power bar, it would do that. RIght now, you have to manually press the power switch in every time you restore power to the system. It's VERY fast, and works well.

Good buy

Backup disk, connected via FW800. Fast connection. Quiet fan, but still too loud for use in a very quiet room. But so far I haven't found any external harddisk with fan (I do not buy harddisks without! They simply get too hot which reduces the life dramatically!) that is REALLY quiet.
