A bit on the heavy side, but it holds the camera like a vice. Reasonably priced arca swiss compatible head. Not sure if it is quite as smooth as some of the higher dollar heads but it seems strong and very well made for the price. If I was doing it again I may have went with the lighter weight capacity version to save on weight.

Sturdy and a good weight that can handle a large camera such as my 7D with 70-200mm lens. Controls are slow to change however and when you have your tripod in strange angles(camera upside down) having knobs all of the same design can get confusing.

I have shot 9 shot HDR images, 30 second dusk exposers in 45 mile an hor straight line wind on the top of the Sandias in New Mexico. and used a 500 Sigma lens on a Wimberly mount Very stable images came from this ball head paired with my Manfrotto Legs that i got many years ago from my Grandfather who had them for many years before me. The controls are easy to use and are very stable when you get things locked down tight. Very small and light, perfect for that backpacker that may bring the extra weight. I have only had it for 2 weeks but shot over 400+ photos from it. If i find a problem i will update my post.

Vanguard's top-of-the-line ABH-230K semi-elliptical ball head automatically adjusts and increase tension to handle off-center load, with exceptional strength and stability. Patented features include Combination-Friction Forces Control (CFFC) which enables extreme tension and friction control via an ergonomic grooved dial located on the main adjustment knob. Both are independently adjustable but positioned side-by-side on the same axis for convenient fine-tuning. This combination of precise tension and friction forces control increases the strength to provide outstanding security.
ABH-230K has exceptional stability with its Stability X3 system's additional component between the semi-elliptical ball head and housing, providing a loading weight capacity of three times that of other ball head. Other features include an industry-leading housing with oxidation anodizing treatment that provides a smooth, scratch-free surface. It prevents scratching and damaging with incredible resistance. Its quick-release plate has cavity-mounted anti-slip rubber pads for greater camera-to-surface security. A scaled base enables smooth 360-degree panoramic movement. It is compatible with numerous Arca quick release plates so its platform requires no adaptor. K-type knob lock enables fine-tuning.
