I replaced an old, heavy and rarely used tripod with the Vanguard Alta Pro 283CT and SBH-100 QR Ballhead purchased from Adorama (www.adorama.com) for a price that I could not get in Canada even with shipping cost added in. I had looked at Tripods from Monfrotto, Gitzo, Benro and others. I found that this tripod and head met my requirements at an excellent price point. I have had the tripod for nearly a month now and I am pleased with how light and easy it is to use. I am using a tripod much more now since this combination is easy to take with me. I can carry the tripod in the supplied case easily on my photo shoots. The height of the tripod, head and camera are ideal for me as I am six feet tall. As far a stability I find that the Vanguard Alta Pro 283CT is extremely stable for the equipment I am using. My camera is a Nikon D7000 with Vertical Grip and the longest lens is a Nikkor 70-300mm VRII. This tripod leg and ballhead combination could probably hold a larger and heavier combination without sagging so it works extremely well. I compose and shoot without any concerns that things change when my hands leave the camera and tripod. This tripod offers many features that make it easy to use in a variety of different shooting situations. I haven't even explored all of these yet. When I look for equipment I shop for the best quality I can get then look for the best price. I am not swayed into shopping by Brand Name. I found here that this Vanguard Tripod meets or exceeds the other tripods I checked out and the low price was just a bonus. I would have bought this combination even at a higher price point. Check out this combination as you will not be disappointed.
