About Vivitar 1.4x

Note: not compatible with EF-S lenses

The Vivitar 1.4x Auto Focus Tele Converter for Canon is an easy way to noticeably extend the reach (focal length) of compatible lenses. The 1.4x Tele Converter can be mounted between select lenses and the camera body to increase the focal length by the power of 1.4x. The new multi layer coating reduces flare and ghost, which is a common problem with digital cameras.

They also offer maximum photography magnification by 1.4 x, without any variation in the minimum focusing distance. Compact and lightweight, these teleconverters convert your lenses into longer focal-length lenses, so you don't have to do a lot of unnecessary footwork.

Auto focus only works with some lenses

from Seattle  -  Semi-pro Photographer

A little disappointed because it doesn't work with my main lenses: DA* 16-50 and Sigma 70-200 2.8 (HSM lenses just keep hunting and flashing) Somebody said don't use tele converter with wide angle lenses, but the auto focus works fine with the DA 18-250mm and FA 24-90mm and don't know why It doesn't work with my FA-100 2.8 (?!)

It Works on Auto Focus; K-5, and K10d

from Brandon, MS  -  Photo Enthusiast

Finally. It took a very old friend "Vivitar" two tries, but this on really works. I do not write reviews but thought this one needed writing. Less than $100.00, great value. Tight fit even on my very used K10d. Two Tamron and one Pentax lens. A little slow finding infinity and focusing first start, Fine after that.

Questions about this item:

David A  Just received my tele converter and after reading the enclosed instruction slip realize that it does not work with EF-S lenses. Re-reading the site literature doesn't show me a warning about this. Did I miss something?
DEAN R  Even on other sites you will rarely see the notation that it does not work on EF-S lens. I don't think you missed seeing anything. It probably should be stated somewhere in the ad along with some of the other lens that it will not work with.
Shopper  Is this teleconverter compatible with the Canon EF-S 18-200mm lens on a 60D camera?
GEORGE R  No. Do NOT mix brands. Sigma lens made for Canon cameras using a Sigma tele converter (for Canon) is OK. Canon lens, Canon camera using a Sigma tele converter, or in this case Vivatar, is not. Sorry.
David F  Will this converter work with a Canon T2i and the 55-250 kit lense? Thank you.
KEVIN F  No. The 55-250 kit lens is NOT COMPATIBLE with teleconverters. The back of the lens protrudes too far back. This is the case with most EF-S lenses as they are specifically designed for the small sensor so the back glass protrudes back closer to the sensor. The staff answer above is regarding the 55-200 lens which is an EF lens and doesn't have this problem.
