CAUTION - Will Not Fit EOS EF-S Lenses

Did not fit my EOS EF-S lenses, as was noted plainly on the instruction sheet included in the box with the lens - but was not noted on the web site.

Autofocus does not work

from White Plains, NY  -  Photo Enthusiast

I bought this teleconverter to increase the focal length of my telephoto lenses, and the autofocus does not work. I have tried it on the Canon - EF 70–300mm f/4–5.6 IS USM and the Sigma - 150-500mm f/5-6.3 PO DG OS HSM, and it works on neither. I can still use it on manual focus, but obviously it is not too convenient when photographing wildlife in movement.

Incompatible with Canon EF-S lenses

from Kennewick, WA  -  Photo Enthusiast

This lens fits the Canon EOS body, but does NOT attach to EF-S lenses. The pamphlet that comes with the lens clearly indicates this; the Adorama website does NOT. It should. Customer pays for shipping both ways, and has nothing to show for it. DO NOT BUY THIS LENS IF YOUR INTENT IS TO MATE IT WITH CANON EF-S LENSES.

Auto focus does not work with D3200

from atlanta, ga  -  Photo Enthusiast

I read several places that this will work with a Nikon D3200 auto focus, but it does not. I am returning the item for a refund.

Not Perfect

from Columbus OH  -  Photo Enthusiast

I really wanted something that would get me closer to wildlife. While this product did the job, the results were poor: the extender eats a lot of light. Under ideal lighting, it would be fine. Anything else and you get high ISOs and grain.

I would buy this product again and again

from Dallas, Texas  -  Photo Enthusiast

Love this product. Picture quality is excellent. Glad I spent the money on this item rather than a cheaper one. I love this product.

Just Didn't Do It For Me .....

from Davidsonville, Md  -  Photo Enthusiast

I had hoped to use this product to double the length of my 70-300 telephoto for some wildlife shots. It certainly did double the length, but with a trade-off I wasn't willing to accept. I had been told that the converter would also double my f-stop (which it did) but it also did not produce sharp images. Admittedly, it was a long shot (no pun intended), but I would recommend just sucking it up and buying longer glass if you want clarity.

Do not buy this teleconverter!

from Northern Virginia  -  Photo Enthusiast

I bought this teleconverter to increase effective focal length of my nikon 70 to 300mm zoom lense. The device did not allow autofocus at all. I took images using manual focus, and in all cases the resulting image had extremely poor contrast and unacceptablely poor sharpness. Results were much worse than simply cropping an image shot with the straight lense without teleconverter . I rated this teleconverter 1 star, because zero is not an option.

Meets Expectations

from Watauga, TN  -  Photo Enthusiast

It does what it says it will. it can work with autofocus but do not depend on it in Nikon DX cameras. Manual works fine and is as others have noted. it does fit a 5100.

less than thrilled

from Norman, OK  -  Photo Enthusiast

I have only had the teleconverter for 2 days and tried it with landscape, birds and flowers. I have an A200. It didn't work in manual or auto with my Sony 3.5-5.6/18-70 kit lense or my Tamron F/3.5-4.5 SP AF 10-24 DiII. But I really wasn't expecting it to work with those 2 lenses. It worked in both modes with my Tamron Di AF70-300 F4-5.6 LD macro lense. The results weren't as good as I was hoping but I was shooting without a tripod. I had to work with settings to get decent shots in different lighting, indoors and out. It worked in both modes with my Tamron SP AF 200-500mm F5-6.3. It wouldn't auto focus when shooting through shrubs or if various shades of green, from foilage, were in the frame on a sunny day. I had to use it mainly in manual mode. I shoot a lot of wildlife and flowers. So I still have more situations to test with. But so far I am not impressed.

Questions about this item:

Jim P  I have a Canon T1i with a 18-55 EF-S and 75-300 EF lenses. I bought this converter before realizing it will not fit EF-S lenses. Is there a converter that will fit both styles of lenses?
DESERY J  I am not sure. You just pointed out the difference to me. But I rarely use my 18-55fs lens because I bought a Sigma dc 17-70 lens which it fits.
Jose B  My EOS 60D with the Tamron 17-50mm F/2.8 will fit this Vivitar teleconverter?
JOHN B  Yes. The Tamron 17-50mm is an EF lens (Red dot) which is compatible with the Tele Converter. The EF-S lenses (White dot) are NOT compatible with the Tele Converter.
ender l  will it works with my 55-250 ef-s lens...?????
RICHARD J  No, it will not work with EF-S lenses. Only EF-L or EF lenses.
