Nice, well built body, not too heavy. Several useful functions. This is my first external flash and it has been very easy to use.
I am using this on a Panasonic GX1 micro 4/3 Camera. For the price the flash is quite good. The light quality is very nice especially if you bounce the light off a wall or standard height ceiling. The refresh is not bad with a fresh set of batteries but it does dwindle fast. the balance isn't bad but I'm still getting use to holding a micro 4/3 camera over a dslr. with the flash mounted on the camera you may need to use a second hand but you need to be sure that you don't cover any o the sensors. This flash takes a little bit of playing around with to get things just right but once you get the hang of it it's pretty good. It's not as fool proof as a canon flash on a Canon DSLR setup. The real issue I have is with the swivel and rotation of the head. It has stopping point so if you like to bounce the flash off the ceiling and you change orientation of the camera and you need to change the rotation 180 degrees, you will find that it goes 90 degrees and then won't go anymore. You have to rotate it backwards 270 to get to that point. Otherwise a great flash for the price.
I use primarily for wildlife with a Better Beamer, and also multi-flash set-up. This is the second flash of this model that I have. This one has a more substantial metal shoe that I really like as it appears to be much more robust.
Okay flash, sometines zoom head would run constently when powered on,would have to tap it to stop. Sleep mode works if you have it on camera. I got two for flash set up slaves sensor is not the best tbey have to br close 15 ft and sensor needs to be pointed at msin flash. Dont get these if you want to use on radio triggers. I did and the power saving mode is a pain and cant be turned off.if they sit idle for 90 seconds they shut down and you will have to walk over and reset them. Slave mode turns off hot shoe so radio triggers wont work and thre is no pc terminal. I returned them becajse of that. Of you just wont to use on camera or with TTL cord they will work good gor that ONCE AGAIN DONT GET TO USE WITH RADIO TRIGGERS OF ANY KIND!!!! Close flash on slave mode for portraits or macro perfect for that.
I ordered this light expecting a "cheaper" version of a good light. While I'm sure there are those that could make the case that this would never compare with a "pro" light and i would never disagree with them, but I consider myself an enthusiast and it works just fine for my purposes. Exceeds my expectations.
Save your money buy a speedlight i'm working on returning my second one stopped working sounded like it had a stripped gear hope i can get a refund to buy a speedlight with. Vivitar has horrible customer service took almost three months to get a warranty replacement on first flash
This is a great, all-around flash, especially for the price. It's features, reliability, and functionality are comparable to the camera manufacturer's units, and I would rather have two of these that i can buy for the price of the other.
I purchased this as a way to learn how to utilize hotshoe flash. I've been pleased with the results. I've since purchased a Nikon flash but still apprciate the ability to use the Vivitar flash in conjuction with the Nikon.
Really like this flash. For it's price there is no better TTL/manual flash for strobies out there. My only draw back to this flash is that when triggering it remotely it will constantly go into sleep mode and have a button physically pushed to wake it. This is really a nuisance when it is on a light stand 15' from you and behind a modifier. Really wish there was a way to disable/turn off the sleep mode.
I use this for table top art pic's for this purpose nothing I have found compares in this price range...one downfall..limited on power levels!!!!....don't think it will take a lot of knocking around.....but hey it's [$] and does it well. Better than I expected for what I spent!!
