Just as good as the Canon for much less

A LOT less money than the Canon version and works just as well. Plus, it uses AAA batteries which are easier to find and if you know you need them you can buy some rechargeables.

My Mistake

I should have read the reviews here more carefully. The only way to turn this unit off or reset to zeroes is to remove the batteries. Not user friendly. The "instructions" are almost useless. After realizing this, I ordered the Vello Shutterboss Version II, which appears to be the very same (rebranded) OEM product with easy-to-use on-off and reset capabilities (by pressing two buttons simultaneously). The Vello model also comes with a readable instruction booklet. The two remotes look nearly identical and are likely made by the same Chinese OEM but with slightly upgraded firmware on the Vello model. Nothing really wrong with the Vivitar, but it's painful to use.

Good enough

I've used the same tool on my old Canon t2i and it works just about flawlessly. The bad: The construction is certainly cheap, but it never broke in four years of probably weekly use (also used it as a remote shutter release). There was next to no manual, but if you can figure out your camera settings, this takes maybe 10 minutes. No off switch. Slightly annoying, but whatever, I set it all up right before heading out into the night as best I can then remove the batteries. It's never been an issue, but I lost a pair of batteries that I left in the intervalometer for a few months. The good: It's not $ Easy to use once you figure it out. If the cheap construction breaks, you won't cry.

Does the job

This is my second copy of this item. The first was under a different brand name (Neewer). The original required extensive time to make it work properly. The buttons have a rubber transfer cushion beneath them and it was too rigid for the buttons to work independently of one another. I managed to fix the flaw on that one and have been using it successfully for a few years. I bought another because I am assembling a new kit for a second camera. The new one worked properly out of the package after installing batteries. My only real beef with either one is that there is no power on/off and no reset control. You have to reset every setting back to zero the way you set it to 47:22:29 or whatever. Since it is over $100 less than the Canon model, I think I can live with it. By the way, there is a model of this timer remote that does do the two desired functions, but it is considerably more expensive for what amounts to a software rewrite.

Gets the Job Done

If you're planning on getting a lot of use out of the shutter release, I'd splurge on the branded Canon model. The vivitar doesn't have an on/off switch, so you have to manually remove the batteries when you're finished using it. The quality of the plastic seems brittle and I'm just waiting for it to snap. After playing with it for a while you'll eventually figure out how to operate the shutter release, but it requires patience and determination to get there. Overall the product works, but you definitely pay for what you get with the Vivitar.

Interval time not right

I had a similar timer I used on my digital rebel. Needed a new one for my Canon 6D. It operates just like my other one but I noticed what seems to me to be a small flaw. The Interval time does not allow 3 or 4 second intervals. If I select 4 seconds it counts down from 2. If I select 5 seconds it correctly counts down the interval from 5 seconds. Works out ok for me as I generally use 2 second intervals between my shots for timelapse. Odd quirk though.

Excellent for the price

The product was received and exceeded expectations. I was able to get the product to work for the purpose that I wanted it. Documentation would be rated a bit below average and the product does not have an on/off switch allowing it to eat batteries.
