About Wimberley WH-200-S

The Wimberley WH-200-S Sidemount Wimberley Head is a lighter, more compact alternative to the full Wimberley Gimbal Head. The Sidemount Wimberley head shares the main casting and pan and tilt mechanisms with the Wimberley Head, but a side-mounted Arca-Swiss-style quick release clamp replaces the other model's swing arm & adjustable platform. The design of the Sidemount Wimberley head allows you to set the center of gravity of the camera/lens over the pan base, for smooth, stable changes to your lens positioning. The Sidemount Wimberley Head has a built-in Arca-Swiss-style quick release clamp. In order to use the head, your lens must be equipped with an Arca-Swiss-style lens plate.

Wimberley WH-200-S Features

  • Ideally suited for lenses similar in size to a 300mm f/2.8 or 500mm f/4. Larger lenses may require a spacer or a replacement foot for the lens collar
  • The built-in industry-standard Arca-Swiss style quick release clamp makes it compatible with the many different plates available from Arca-Swiss, Acratech, Kirk, Wimberley, Really Right Stuff, Foba, etc
  • Works with Wimberley F-9 Sidekick Bracket for positioning a flash above the lens

This product is fantastic!

I use this head on my Gitzo tripod and it works great. I am a nature photographer and it is the best head I've used. Solid, easy to use, very easy to balance. I wish it were a little lighter since the combination of my 500mm prime and D800E is quite heavy, but that is my only complaint.

Questions about this item:

Vicki B  Besides being slightly less expensive and slightly smaller/lighter, are there any other advantages to using this sidemount head versus the Whinberly II? I primarily will use it for photographing birds. I currently use a Nikon 7000 with a 300f/4 lens and teleconverter but want this head to work well if I add a larger camera body and/or lens in the future.
DONALD W  The full version supports the lens/camera on the bottom of the arc rather on the top. Therefore it can support more weight and is easier to take the heavey lens on and off. We have the nikon 500mm at about 9 lbs.
