Very Pleased

I purchased this in early January 2014 to replace a 20+ year old Sony receiver that quit working. Nice Unit but Limited Controls and Quest

By

from Philla  -  Practical

This is very nice unit. I purchased it for the home office, Unfortunately, there is not much to choose from in the Mini/Micro component category. The CRX-332 seems to be one of the best balances of quality, features and price for its category. While it is somewhat dated (no Bluetooth, internet connection or docking for newer iPhones) it does provide auxiliary input for a Bluetooth adapter, PC, DVD, etc. It also includes a USB connection for mobile devices. It's working out quite well. So far I have paired it with Yamaha 6 ohm NS-AW150 and 8 ohm BIC DV62si speakers along with a Pinnacle 10-200 sub-woofer (sub woofer output is an important feature). I am (eagerly) awaiting the arrival of a pair of Klipsch RB-41s. Downsides: limited controls: only bass and treble for equalization, no sub-woofer crossover frequency adjustment. CD tracks and radio presets can only be accessed sequentially, not by track or preset number. Power output is limited but should be adequate for a smaller area with efficient speakers. For both the Yamaha and BIC speakers, there was discernible distortion at >75% volume. Like many products in this category, great liberties are taken in rating power, but somehow I thought a brand like Yamaha would rise above that. Consider the power ratings: 20 watts per channel at 6 ohms (NOT 8) at 1 KHz (NOT 20 -20,000 Hz) with 10% Total Harmonic Distortion. 10% THD??? Really??? Contrast this with how power rated for a Yamaha Aventage RX-A1040 receiver: 110 watts x 2, 8 ohms, 20-20,000 Hz, 0.06% THD. If the CRX-332 were rated the same way it's power would be, say 2-5 watts per channel?

Great little system

By

from Stamford, CT  -  Audiophile

Very pleased with this system. High-quality sound, streamlined in appearance, very appealing. Easy set up. However, the thing I found very confusing was following the instructions for "Automatic preset tuning." Just didn't work, even following the instructions closely. However, when I followed the instructions for "Manual preset tuning," it worked like a charm. Afterwards, was totally pleased with this product, and how well and simply the remote control worked. Great system!

I'm pleased with this equipment!

I use it as a second "mini" sound system in my den and because it's smaller I can even position it so you can hear it at a "Yard Party." Great quality.

A very nice little receiver!

By

from Westminster, South Carolina  -  Practical

Everything about this little receiver is just great except one thing, in order to receive FM stereo broadcast you must let this unit auto tune, there is no way it let you receive stereo broadcasts any other way, to be quite honest I do not like not being able to decide for myself if I want to manually tune to stereo broadcasts or switch to mono, if the reception is a little noisy, so what, it should be my decision to listen or not, and not some overpaid Yamaha engineer! Other than that it is a great product! The preset tune up and down buttons on the remote are on the very bottom of the remote, this makes pushing the buttons very difficult if you hold the remote in the tradition way. I mean if you hold the remote in your palm facing up it is very hard to push these buttons with your thumb. The USB port is easy to use and plays my flash drive with ease and accuracy. As I said the product is great except for what I noted above, especially the bad placement of the remote buttons, thinking of buying a universal remote to use with this unit just to get better button placement! Would have given it 5 stars otherwise. I might have given it 10 lol!

Good Receiver

By

from mke  -  Practical

Remote is fully functional (tone, balance, station and input select) yet simple enough to use without manual. One minor problem: Power to the usb port is only available when usb input is selected. Thus, portable audio devices cannot be powered when used as input.

Yamaha has always been reliable!

It takes up zero room, yet provides mega sound and clarity. It's Yamaha, there is no substitute.
