Yamaha R-S500BL Features

  • ToP-ART and ART Base chassis construction fully protect audio signals from noise and vibration
  • Pure Direct uses the shortest signal route for higher sound purity with low noise and transmission losses
  • Yamaha's exclusive Continuously Variable Loudness Control for listening at low volumes
  • The built-in iPod Dock has an independent power supply for extremely high S/N ratio
  • With a subscription to SIRIUS Satellite Radio, you can greatly expand your choice of high quality radio programs
  • This receiver makes it easy for someone in another room to listen to the music and even control playback
  • 12V Trigger Out (Control Out): The 12V trigger output can be used to automatically power on the components in Zone 2 when the main power is turned on. Output is a high 100mA, so relay operation is possible
  • Remote (IR) 2 In/Out and Remote 2 In: These terminals let you connect an IR signal receiver for wireless remote control between the Main Zone and Zone 2
  • Speaker A/B and A+B Selection: Enjoy music in a second room! Just connect a second pair of speakers to the Speaker B terminals and you can listen to either pair or both of them at the same time
  • The Look and Texture of Quality: Offers the look and feel of the top-class A-S2000, with elegant aluminum front panel and silky touch volume/selector knobs. You can feel Yamaha's commitment to quality when you touch the knobs
  • ToP-ART Sound Quality Design: ToP-ART (Total Performance Anti-Resonance Technology) design uses a symmetrical layout for accurate sound field reproduction and the ART Base to eliminate effects from external vibration
  • Pure Direct: Music signals travel the shortest possible route, bypassing the buffer amp and tone, loudness and balance controls to virtually eliminate any signal degradation for the purest sound quality
  • New Speaker Terminals: These high grade speaker terminals have silver plating for best connection and outstanding durability. The pitch between jacks is wider for easier insertion
  • Highest Quality Parts: The quality of each individual part, as well as how they work together, basically determines the sound quality of any component. Yamaha uses only very high quality parts, carefully selected and tested
  • Continuously Variable Loudness Control: Our ears lose sensitivity to high and low frequencies at low volume levels. This control lets you turn down the volume while maintaining the optimum frequency response
  • Special Power Supply for Clear iPod Sound: The iPod dock has an independent power supply to prevent operating or charging current from the iPod from flowing into the amp ground signal. This ensures optimum iPod sound quality
  • Balanced System for Minimal Noise: An unbalanced interface is subject to common mode voltage noise, so Yamaha uses a balanced system to receive the iPod signal. This makes a significant contribution to reducing noise in the system for higher sound quality
  • New Remote Controls: The R-S500 preset remote control is designed to make it easy to operate the receiver's many functions

Another great Yamaha

I'd had great success with Yamaha audio products before, and so when my old receiver (gave me great results for 20 years) finally started wheezing, I knew the best choice was going to be another Yamaha. I'd had great success with Yamaha audio products before, and so when my old receiver (gave me great results for 20 years) finally started wheezing, I knew the best choice was going to be another Yamaha. Knew that the 2-channel market was a little slim, so I contacted Yamaha by email to see what was available. Their email came back in a few hours and led me to the right series. I wanted a good receiver with inputs for phono (that was the one that really narrowed it down) and spots for iPod and Sirius-XM. the 500 had it all. I have a turntable, cassette deck, and CD player/recorder, and the set up went quickly with no hitches. And the best part is ----- when I listen to the quality of the music, it's like I have a whole new collection. Clear, sharp, and clean. I'm a happy guy.

The unit I have been looking for.

from Greenfield, Wi.  -  Technically Challenged

The receiver I have been looking for. Easy to set up. Easy controls especially the remote. If I can figure this out anyone can.

A superb Upgrade

from Bonney Lake, WA  -  Tech Savvy

I used this to replace a 20 year old Yamaha that was failing badly. Until I set this one up I did not realize how badly the older unit was failing. The sound is crisp and clean. I haven't even begun to push the volume as even at low volume settings the room is filled with sound. I am currently running four sets of speakers using an external switch to choose those speakers I want to use. Even when all four are being used there is no diminution of power. I am very pleased with the sound, with the ease of set up, and power output.

Very happy

Just What was Expected

from Rocky Mount, North Carolina USA  -  Practical

Very easy to unpack, set up and install even in home made wood cabinets. This was installed into a black walnut dry sink with speakers on both sides of cabinet, and the Yamaha CD s300 cd player was added to it. Gives a great sound to an 18th century English dining room. No one knows where the music flows from behind the closed doors! Perfect size, and the control design are easy to use for people with neuropathy. Power output is excellent, and being able to save as many station settings is a positive plus! I bought this after studying other models and made the right choice.

well designed and built

from Kettering Ohio  -  Tech Savvy

From the "record out selector" to the many analog inputs (including phono) this receiver is the perfect match of design and build quality. Yes, the digital display only turns off with the "pure direct" switch turned on...not a big deal. Yamaha has remained a great source of quality audio gear and the RS 500 reflects that.

clean sound-good value

from murfreesboro, Tn.  -  Practical

This is a great choice in a small field of 2 channel receivers. Sound is very clean, no background noise whatsoever. An excellent value. Seems to be well made.

Great tuner/amp

from Spokane, WA  -  Practical

This is to replace my beloved Sansui 800 circa 1969. I thought I would lose some of the analog "warmth" to which I was accustomed, but no. Excellent sound with a mix of old Marantz and new Polk speakers.
