Nikon U.S.A. has just a announced buffer memory expansion service for the D3 DSLR. This will improve performance by increasing the number of images stored in buffer memory while waiting for them to be written onto the memory memory card. The service costs $500. When shooting in burst mode, the number of consecutive images that can be shot will increase.

For instance, with the camera's built-in buffer memory, you can shoot up to 74 full-sized images per burst of continuous shooting in the "JPEG Normal" setting. With the expanded memory, that capacity nearly doubles, to 130 photos.

The memory expansion servicing is performed by one of Nikon's two U.S. service facilities. Go here for details.
