A flower-friendly gadget

By Joe Farace

April 29, 2009

I used to just stick my flowers in a vase to photograph them.

That’s an OK approach but I could never get the flowers to stay where I wanted until I started using Adorama’s Rose Holder Clip and Clamp. This inexpensive ($19.95) device has a 13-inch aluminum Flexible rod and a large clamp used to grip a tabletop or other flat surface.

A smaller clamp holds delicate items at the “right” position for photography. Indentations in the small clamp accept any flower stem, not just roses, without damaging them. It can also hold other objects and props besides flowers for close-ups and still life photos.

The Adorama Rose Holder can also be a photographer’s assistant: Placed off to one side of the camera on a tripod leg, it can be used to hold a small reflector.

Joe Farace is the author of a new book called “Digital Monochrome Special Effects” published by Lark Books and is available at Barnes & Noble and Amazon.com.
