Major firmware update for Canon 5D Mark II, version 2.0.3, coming later this month. It includes 24 frames per second video, and changes the 30 fps video rate to 29.97 to conform with TV standards.

When it is available, users will able to download the update here.

The following statement was provided by Canon:

With the firmware upgrade 2.0.3, the Canon EOS 5D Mark II - the camera that revolutionized the film industry with its 24x36mm sensor, depth-of-field and manual control—can ascend to even greater creative heights.

2.0.3 meets the demands of both professional movie producers and aspiring filmmakers alike by adding 24p video acquisition and changing the 30p video frame rate to 29.97 to comply with TV production standards.

In addition, audio capability is enhanced for professional use, adding manual audio level control, and increasing the audio sampling frequency to 48KHz from 44.1KHz.

When shooting movies manually, the new histogram display facilitates monitoring, while Shutter Priority AE Mode (Tv) and Aperture-priority (Av) mode offer flexible options for controlling exposure. In addition, Canon has engineered 2.0.3 to improve camera and lens communication when manual sensor cleaning is in operation.

This free upgrade represents an evolutionary leap forward and positions the Canon EOS 5D Mark II as a seminal media tool for a new decade. Tuned to the demands of filmmakers and the motion picture industry, the Canon EOS 5D Mark II makes compromise a thing of the past.
