Sony claims its new, environmentally friendly alternative batteries will last up to three times longer than an Alkaline, and can be charged over 1,000 times.
Sony Electronics new line of CycleEnergy rechargeable batteries are now available, expanding the family to three grades that come in AA and AAA sizes to match the widest range of consumer preferences and home electronics devices.
CycleEnergy batteries can provide a more environmentally friendly alternative for consumers. Consumers dispose of more than 2 billion batteries a year, according to Environment, Health & Safety (www.ehso.com). A pre-charged Sony CycleEnergy Battery may last up to three times longer than an Alkaline battery and can be charged 1,000 times, which is equivalent to 3,000 Alkaline batteries.
Consumer demand for reusable power sources and reduced waste for electronic devices continues to grow, said ShaneHigby, director of consumer media at Sony Electronics. By using CycleEnergy rechargeable batteries, users can save money and help reduce unnecessary waste.
The rechargeable batteries now come in three levels designated by the drain or power consumption of the device. Newest to the line is the pre-charged 1000mAh battery, best used with everyday devices such as a television remote control. In Sony s laboratory testing, this entry line lasted one and a half times longer than alkaline. It is ideal for users transitioning from alkaline to rechargeable.
The next level of CycleEnergy batteries is the pre-charged 2000mAh, lasted three times longer than alkaline in our tests. This grade is ideal for devices that require consistent power with slow drain like DreamMachine clock radio.
Tested to last five times that of alkaline batteries,CycleEnergy 2500mAh are ideal for high-drain devices such as CyberShot digital cameras.
The Sony CycleEnergy product lineup comes in new environmentally-conscious packaging, incorporating significantly less plastic used than previous packaging. The Power Chargers and Quick Refresh Chargers offer a compact design and work with both AA and AAA batteries. All charger models are equipped with an automatic safety charge cut off function featuring voltage monitoring, safety timer and alkaline battery detection.
Four packs of AA size 1000mAh are priced at $8.99, while the 2000 and 2500mAh are both listed at $15.99. CycleEnergy batteries bundled with a power charger range in price from $12.99 to $33.99.
