Pentax announces silver K-5, lenses, GPS rugged cams

Eye-catching limited edition DSLR

Pentax today announced a limited edition sliver version of its flagship DSLR, the K5 along with several premium prime lenses and a new generation of rugged compact cameras

The Limited Editioin Silver K-5, in addition to its unique silver exterior, features a new grip but in all other ways is identical to the original K-5 (Read Jason Schneider's Review). Pentax also announced three limited-edition silver versions of its pancake lenses, the DA 21mm f/3.2AL, DA 40mm f/2.8, and 70mm f/2.4 (below). The lenses are matched to the look and feel of the silver K-5 and, as you can see in the above photo, give it the look of a classic 50s-era SLR.

The K-5 Silver will be available in April for $1,699.95 but can be pre-ordered from Adorama Now (credit cards will not be charged until order ships). Pricing and availability of the lenses will be announced. For details, read the Pentax press release.

Pentax also announced a new lens for its 645D medium format camera, the Pentax D FA 645 25mm f/4 AL [IF] SDM AW. An ultrawide lens, the 25mm f/4 is dustproof and weather-resistant. It will be available in April for $4,999.95. For details, read the Pentax press release.

Finally, Pentax announced the 12th generation of its adventure series of rugged compact digital cameras, thw Optio WG-1 and WG-1 GPS. Both models are waterproof (to 33 feet), shockproof (withstands falls to 5 feet), dustproof, coldproof  (down to 14 degrees farenheight) and crushproof (withstands weight force up to 220 pounds). Both cameras sport a 14MP sensor, five macro LEDs for macro lighting and a detachable macro stand, a 28-140mm equivalent 5x optical zoom lens, 2.7-inch LCD, and 720p HD recording, among other features. The WG-1 GPS, as its name infers, adds GPS features to the mix but is otherwise identical. The WG-1 will come in Black or Purple while the WG-1 GPS comes in Green or Gray, and can be pre-ordered from Adorama (credit cards will not be charged until order ships).
