Here’s a fun game we can all play.

If you were shipwrecked on a desert island with a camera and one lens (assuming you had a way to recharge the camera and your gear didn’t get ruined when your boat ran ashore), which lens would you want to have? In other words, what’s your favorite lens—the one you couldn’t live without? Post your response below or on Adorama’s Facebook page). Tell us which of the lenses you own you’d choose and why. If you’re participating on Facebook, post a photo taken with this lens along with exposure and any other relevant info. Finally, if you have a web site, blog, or online collection of photos, please share a URL in your post.
That island, by the way, could be Manhattan. Don't take us too literally! ;-)
Yeah, I know, that’s like asking which is your favorite child. (“You’re all unique and I love each of you equally!”) But play along. Someone who might be looking to add some new glass his or her collection of lenses may be inspired by your choice and your explanation.I’ll post my favorite responses in a future blog post and include the URL you supply, so you have a chance at some free traffic and publicity. Have fun!

FA 77 ltd. Would get me through a nice long stay on a secluded island. Actually sounds like a nice vacation right now.....

Do I want to take close ups or landscapes??? Hmmm...my final answer is my Canon EF 100mm f2.8L Macro IS lens. Packing plenty of sunscreen, a hat, drinking water and my walking shoes. Who is going with me???

I would trade fast and sharp lens, short DOF for the versatility of range of the 18-200 lens. Best compromise for travel versatility.

I think I'd have one of those fake 70-200mm lenses that is really a coffee cup and have it filled with a nice cool beer, sit back and enjoy the view.

If it's the island in the photo, I'll probably want the 100 macro. But if it's a bigger island, a 28-300 (assuming I won't have a big monitor to pixel peep). Can you start a fire with a zoom lens?

I would have the 28-300 mm f3.5-5.6 EF L IS USM: perfect for those gorgeous landscapes of palms and coconuts and strong enough for pictures od details of palms and coconuts.

If my Ikelite housing made it as well, the answer is without a doubt my Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM. I recently bought this lens for a dive trip to Wakatobi in Indonesia, and absolutely loved it for all the macro reef creatures! Fantastic lens above water too! Many examples can be found on my blog: http://www.ktuli.com/photography/

I would go for the Canon EF 100 f/2.8L macro and get close.

to have my 18 - 200 Nikon. It is my most used lens.
by Mach1joe in Montana on February 21, 2011
Hands down, it would be my Canon 7-200mm f2.8 IS USM. It is the Swiss Army Knife of Canon lenses: great for portraits, action (wildlife) and delivers sharp image with fabulous color.
