First, if he thinks the exposure on the model is identical in each of his exposure compensated shots, he must not have reviewed the video. Second, my lowly Olympus E520 lets me control flash exposure compensation separate from ambient exposure compensation, just as is the case with probably any other brand. Maybe he's just trying to hard to sell Canon?

Just wondering, why is there ISO 800 on D90?

always enjoy marks videos, but this one although informative was slightly deceptive about capabilities of Nikon cameras and flash. Mark gave the impression that nikon cameras cannot have seperate exposure compensation for flash and ambient. That is wrong, D100, and above all have ability to shoot in aperture priority and seperately control EV global and EV on flash.

exposure compensation controls backgrounds and flash compensation controls subject exposure separately on all nikons!!! even on my d50!! i suspect that even other brands do that... the beep on the cameras also adds up to making you look like someone who does not know what he's talking about

AT ABOUT 4.35 MINUTES IN YOUR VIDEO, YOU MENTIONED GOING TO FOCAL PLANE TO BE ABLE TO INCREASE SHUTTER SPEED OVER 1/250. WHERE AND HOW IS THIS DONE? I HAVE A D5000 AND A SB800. THANKS FLIP

Mark, wow great info.. extremely helpful. I shoot Canon so thanks for those extra tips. Being able to quickly adjust either ambient or flash is awesome. Keep up the great work.

Hi, Great episode Mark, controlling the balance of flash and ambient light something that has never quite been clear in my head until now, so thanks a lot. At 08:30 you talk about using Aperture priority mode with exposure compensation to change only the background exposure, but from the images it looks like the exposure on the model is changing as well. Am I just mis-interpreting what I am seeing in the images? I have been following your whole 1 on 1 series and have learnt so much! Thanks.
