Focusing

I'm just a hobbyist, but I thought that one major tip missing from this episode was to focus for the eyes. Making sure that your pet’s eyes are sharp seems to really make or break a great photo.

White, Black, or very dark pets

In response to the earlier question: If the pet is coming out under or over exposed because of white or black coats, remember to adjust your exposure compensation! Try to use evaluative metering, as "Spot" or "centre weighted" metering can cause longer than necessary shots due to the dark colours on your pet, so adjust accordingly till it looks right. Flash helps a lot too, even if it's only the pop-up flash.
