Last spring, Joe McNally and David Hobby got on a bus and toured the country, teaching their flash techniques to thousands. Now you can watch it again (or for the first time) on DVD.
It was a really big deal: Flash photography gurus Joe McNally and David Hobby spent much of the spring of 2011 travelling, rock-star-style on a specially-designed rock-star bus, across the US visiting 29 cities and travelling 14,500 miles to conduct day-long workshops in packed venues.
Attendees walked away excited to gain new knowledge and techniques and to apply these techniques to their hobbies and businesses. But while thousands did attend, many more couldn't, either because the tour didn't stop in their area or they had conflicts, or were sold out, and instead stayed home and stewed (or posted angry comments).
I am happy to report that if you missed the bus, you can stop stewing, and start clicking. You can now get the entire Flashbus Tour Workshop presentation on DVD, available right here. The best news of all? It only costs $99.95, which, considering the high quality of the information contained therein, is a bargain.
The Flash Bus Tour 2011 DVD is a two-disc set. The first disc features David Hobby, who demonstrates his techniques for using hot shoe flash in in manual mode. The second disc is all about Joe McNally, who goes automatic and shows how to get the most out of TTL flash using members of the audience. Each takes you through the process of building the lighting for a variety of situations and effects.
Joe reports the Washington DC and Philadelphia workshops are the ones shown on the DVD so if you went there, you might see yourself!
But there's also a bonus that even those who attended the Flashbus workshops couldn't possibly have seen: An inside-the-bus tour "from which there is quite possibly no recovery," says Joe.
If you're looking to drop some seriousy well-timed hints to your loved ones about photo-centric holiday gifts, this is a really good one.
