There are many places out there that can give you sunrise and sunset times so you know when to be shooting, and there are even tools out there that will tell you what the light is going to be like at a specific place. However, the one thing that is missing is WHAT to shoot and how to get there from your hotel. Although I have not used Getty or Corbis to get information about a particular area, I am always trying to get a good photo wherever I travel with my wife. I use flickr and try to find out photos on a map. That has also helped me. However I have two new arrows in my arsenal to find out information. Thanks!

I recently stated something similar in one of my blog posts utilizing an app about sunrise and sunset direction and using Google Earth you can find my article here http://theshutterverdict.blogspot.com/2012/05/sunset-silhouette-of-minneapolis.html

I've used Google maps before, but not Bing. I think that the angled viewing will help. Searching for stock first is a good suggestion. I've also had great success looking at postcards for the region you're visiting. Of course, that's once you get there.
