In its third and smallest product announcement today, Nikon unveiled a stylish ultracompact digital camera, the Nikon Coolpix S01.

Fashionistas have a glamorous little new camera to see and be seen with, the Nikon Coolpix S01 (shown in Silver). With dimensions about the size of a credit card and a svelte 0.7 inch thick 3.4-ounce body, the Coolpix S01 is designed for point-and-shoot snapshot photography. Built with a stainless glossy exterior and available from Adorama in September in Red, White, Silver, or Pink, the camera has a minimalist design and just enough control for basic shooting.
The camera has a 2.5-inch touch screen system with four segments that are easily mastered, even by first-time users. While you can shoot in the traditional fashion using a shutter release, you can also simply tap on a subject on screen to take a picture. The S01 also has simple in-camera retouching of images.
In addition to capturing 10MP still images, the Nikon Coolpix S01 can shoot 720p HD videos, and has 7.3GB of built-in memory.
An Easy Auto Mode chooses the best of the camera’s six scene modes for the shooting situation. Alternatively, the user can choose from portrait, landscape, night portrait, night landscape, close-up and backlighting. The camera has a 3x (29-87mm 35mm equivalent) optical zoom lens that focuses as close as 2 inches in Macro mode. ISO range is 80-1600. The camera has a built-in flash.
The Nikon Coolpix S01 is priced for budget-minded photographers with a $179.95 price. It will be available in September, but can be pre-ordered now from Adorama in Red, White, Silver, or Pink.
