Flexible hand-held continuous light produces "Hollywood-style" drama.

It looks like a power tool with a powerful continuos light source grafted on, and in fact, that was a key design influence for the Lowel GL-1 Power LED, announced today by Tiffen. A battery-powered, focusable and dimmaable, photo-quality tungsten LED light with a 3000-degree Kelvin light temperature, the GL-1's diameter of projected light can be changed from a wide flood light to a spot light. The GL-1 is being marketed as a continuous light source for location stills or video productions, offering what is being described as Hollywood-style dramatic lighting. Because the light source is dimmable, the light can be used close up or up to 20 feet away.

The GL-1's base has a 1/4-20 screw thread for tripod or stand mounting, but it is also light and small enough to be easily handheld. The light source consists of a state-of-the-art LED, and the unit can be used in tandem with diffusers and other modifiers. The Lowel GL-1 Power LED will be available towards the end of 2012 for around $800.
