PMA@CES trade show

January 7, 2014

Meet the super-wide-aperture Fujifilm XF56mm f/1.2R lens, the latest in that company's growing line of X-series lenses for its highly acclaimed series of APS-sensored MILCs.

In the run-up to the photography trade show at CES, Fujifilm provided a glimpse into the future of its interchangeable-lens X-series lens lineup, as well as the very near future, with the introduction of a 56mm f/1.2 lens and a roadmap for future releases. At the same time, thanks to popular demand, the company also announced a black version of its critically acclaimed X100s posh compact digital camera.

Superior Quality Boast for Fujinon XF 56mm f/1.2 R Lens

Fujifilm is boasting that the latest X-series lens, the Fujiinon XF 56mm f/1.2 R is not just ideally suited for magical portraits, but that this pro-grade lens will produce image quality that they claim surpasses that of equivalent full-frame lenses.

Relatively compact for an f/1.2 lens, the lens features 11 elements in 8 groups, and includes two ED (extra-low dispersion elements, one double-sided aspherical element, and four elements with a convex surface facing the subject which work to reduce spherical and chromatic aberrations. The Fujifilm XF 56mm f/1.2R Lens will mount on any X-series Fujifilm MILC such s the Fujifilm X-Pro 1 and X-E2.

The announcement of the Fujinon XF 56mm f/1.2 is the first of several lenses in a X-Mount Roadmap that Fujifilm has shared. Expect a 10-24mm ultrawide zoom and 18-135mm all-in-one zoom lens later this year, as well as high-speed tele zoom, wide-angle, and mid-range zoom lenses and a super tele zoom lens in 2015 for a total of 17 lenses by around the end of 2015.

Fujifilm X100s: Now Comes In Black

Finally, Fujifilm bowed to user demand and released a black version of their popular high-end compact digital camera, the Fujifilm X100s. Featuring a built-in 23mm f/2 lens with a 35mm angle of view equivalent and a 16.3MP  APS-C X-Trans CMOS II sensor, the X100s has earned a reputation as a premium compact camera. Matching 28mm conversion lens, black lens hood, adapter ring and leather cases have also been announced.
