Panasonic today announced four new compact digital cameras geared towards snapshooters but with high technology making it easier to get pictures in tough situations.

In its consumer camera offerings at the photography trade show at CES 2014, Panasonic unveiled four compact digital cameras featuring longer-range zoom lenses, plenty of smart automation, and Wi-Fi compatibility.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ40


Panasonic LZ40

Featuring a 20MP CCD sensor and 42x superzoom optical zoom lens with a 35mm equivalent range of 22-924mm, the Panasonic Lumix LZ40 is being offered as a high-performance camera for still and video capture.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS40



The Panasonic Lumix ZS40 has a 30x (24-720mm equivalent focal range, and includes several high-end optical technologies. Built around an 18MP MOS sensor, the camera can capture full HD video, and has Wi-Fi and NFC technology built in. Users can connect with their tablets or smart phones when in hot spots, and one-touch NFC technology lets users operate the camera's functions from their wireless devices, making the ZS40 a good choice for travel and all-around photography.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-SZ8


Next model down the line is the compact Panasonic SZ8, featuring a 12x optical zoom lens (24-288mm 35mm equivalent) and Wi-Fi. Built around a 16MP CCD sensor, it captures 720HD video and can use smartphones or tablets as secondary monitors/camera control devices via a free app. Images can be shared automatically from camera to device as they are being captured.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS35



The final camera in Panasonic's revised compact digital camera lineup is the Panasonic ZS35, a compact camera with a 20x optical zoom lens with a 35mm equivalent range of 24-480mm, a 16MP CMOS sensor, Wi-Fi connectivity, and full 1080p HD video capture. With Wi-Fi, users can use their smartphone/tablet for a secondary monitor of the camera that enables setting focus, zoom, and releasing the shutter remotely. Now it is possible to record video and watching the image live on a smartphone/tablet. With the Instant Transfer function, photos are automatically sent to the designated electronic devices such as smartphone/tablet right after shooting.
