3 Smart Phone Waterproof and Underwater Cases

A submergable case that floats safely if dropped in water, the Kaiser WaveCase accepts any camera with measurements up to 4.2x2.2x1 inch, and a zoom lens that extends no more than 18mm, or 0.7 inches. It has a protective hard-foam frame and removable hard-foam elements that hold different sized cameras in place, and a clear scratch-resistant coating on the lens  side allows for clear shooting, while a flexible silicon foil covering lets you easily see the LCD.

Advantages
•    No need to buy an expensive specialized camera
•    Immediate image sharing capabilities
•    Most let you operate touch screen through housing
•    Keep the armored case on at all times to protect expensive device

Disadvantages
•    Most smart phones don’t zoom
•    Limited feature set
•    Resolution not as good as many stand-alone cameras

OtterBox Armor Series Waterproof Case for iPhone 5

Seidio Obex Waterproof Case for Samsung Galaxy S III
Adorama price:
$63.95

The Seidio Obex Waterproof Case protects the Samsung Galaxy S III against drops, and keeps water, snow, mud, other liquids, dust and sand from damaging your device.  While the curvature provides a secure grip and absorbs shock if your device is dropped, the built-in screen protector promotes touch sensitivity and clarity. Waterproof membranes prevent external matter from entering the microphone and speakers while maintaining sound quality.

Hitcase Pro Waterproof and Ruggedized Case for iPhone 5 with Built-in Wide Angle Lens
Adorama price: $122.98

Waterproof and ruggedized against shocks and drops, the solid Hitcase Pro can be submerged down to 30 feet (the company claims that's deeper than any other case on the market for smart phones) and, unlike other cases for the iPhone 5, has a built-in wide-angle lens with three glass elements. The lens allows for deep focus and is great if you want to record outdoor activities and allow your camera phone to double as an action camera or camcorder.

7 Waterproof cases for compact digital cameras

While there are numerous waterproof/underwater cases designed for specific digital camera models which you can find at Adorama, , I selected these three cases because they are more universal in design and can be used for many cameras within a certain size range. The advantage is that these cameras are less expensive, and the ones rated to work underwater are fine for pool and snorkeling.

Advantages
•    Save the case as you upgrade camera
•    You can use zoom lenses
•    Some cameras that fit in these cases have large sensors and deliver near-pro image quality
•    Costs less to buy a waterproof case than an underwater camera

Disadvantages
•    It's another gadget to carry...plus a case
•    Cases fitted to specific camera models are more expensive

My Aqua Case 6810, Large Underwater Case

This case is designed for low-cost, compact digital cameras, and is good protection for rain and sand. It also can be submerged, but based on user feedback we suggest pool or snorkeling use, nothing deeper than around 5-10 feet. Available in Green or Pink.

DiCaAPac WP-710
Adorama price: $24.95

One of the requirements for this particular guide is that within each sub-category of camera, each case should be universal, and not designed for just a single camera make and model. The DiCaAPac WP-710 is the only case we found that is designed for pocket-sized compact cameras with internal-zoom lenses whose point of entry is on the upper right side of the camera. Note that this is not a submergeable case, but will provide full protection against rain, splashes and sand, a plus when you're going to the beach or venturing out during extreme weather.

DiCAPac WP711

Adorama price: $20.35

If you want to shoot underwater with your internal-zoom compact camera,, the DiCAPac WP-711, which is rated for dives down to 16 feet, is the choice for you.  Constructed from thick, high-grade vinyl with a UV-coated polycarbonate lens cover, the DiCAPac is designed to keep your camera clean and moisture-free in almost any environment. The fabric fastener-based zipper closure system provides two levels of protection to keep your case completely watertight, while the clear panels and flexible material allows you to maintain complete control over all your camera's functions. The DiCAPac is extremely lightweight and can be tucked away in a pocket, making it by far the most convenient option for complete all-weather protection for your digital camera.

DiCAPac WPS10 Waterproof Case for DSLRs
Adorama Price: $76.36

Claimed to be usable underwater down to around 16 feet (according to JIS IPX8 requirements), the DiCAPac WPS10 is designed for DSLRs with wide-angle lenses. It is sealed via an easy to open and close Roll Velcro zipper system, it features a UV-coated polycarbonate lens window. Controls are accessed via a built-in finger sleeve. User suggestion: Be sure to keep the lens window clean!

DiCapac Waterproof Case for Mirrorless Cameras
Adorama price: $89.95

The DiCAPac Waterproof Case for Mirrorless Camera is an underwater housing enabling you to shoot beneath the water's surface with your mirrorless digital camera. It has a depth rating of 16.4'. Operate all of the controls on your camera through the housing, which is constructed from PVC, TPU, ABS, PC and silicone and features a rolled touch-fastener seal. The case features a UV-coated lens port with an extension ring for accommodating larger lenses. The port will fit a lens up to 65mm in diameter and 68mm in length. A neck strap is included, as is a sponge that fits into the bottom of the housing, if necessary, in order to lift shorter camera bodies so that their lenses are aligned with the port.

Ewa-Marine UXAP Underwater Housing for DSLRs
Adorama price: $349.47

Sized to accommodate most DSLRs, a mid-range zoom lens and a shoe-mount flash, the Ewa-Marine UXAP allows room for extra air, which allows dive depths down to 150 feet; an optional BF1 led weight, when inserted into the housing underneath the camera, makes it easier to reach the maximum depth. According to Ewa-Marine, experienced photographers have confirmed that the autofocus and flash both continue to function perfectly. As you descend, the air is pressed into the camera. Due to this, the pressure inside the housing will remain the same as the surrounding water pressure. (This is the reason why Ewa-Marine housings are so safe to use: implosions are impossible.) The U-AXP housing is manufactured from double laminated PVC and has an integrated, optically neutral flat glass port. The external flash that is commonly used on SLR cameras fits into the specially designed section on the top of the housing.
