Your guide to digital camera scene modes

There was a time when using a compact, point-and-shoot camera meant doing without most of the creative versatility that SLR cameras deliver. The advent of digital photography has changed that substantially. Many advanced digital cameras have one or more creative modes built in.

Before: Pretty cool...

One of the most unique is the Fish Eye effect, which is available on certain Pentax compact cameras (Editor's note: Currently there's only one model with this feature, the Pentax Optio Z10). Usage of any creative effect, Fish Eye in particular, requires careful consideration, but under the right circumstances it can add a dimension to your images that can’t be found otherwise.



After: Now that’s hot!

The best part is that the effect is applied after the image has been captured. And by default, the altered image is saved independent of the original, so you won’t louse up a great shot by trying to manipulate it.
