Adobe Soundbooth CS4 makes audio editing so easy even I can do it.
This member of the CS4 tribe features advanced audio editing for photographers

Blog TechTock - by Jack Howard, May 22, 2009

Until I started experimenting with Adobe Soundbooth CS4 (from $77.95 for an upgrade) I found audio editing to be tedious, frustrating, and confusing. The problem is that so many audio editing programs are designed, strange as it may seem, by audio experts for audio experts. Not so Adobe Soundbooth CS4. If you're comfortable working in Adobe Photoshop CS4 or Photoshop Elements, you'll probably be able to ramp up pretty quickly to working Soundbooth CS4. (And if you're running CS4 Web Premium, Production Premium, or Master Collection, you've already got Soundbooth!)...  > Read more

It's official. The just-announced Pentax K-7 is the first SLR with true in-camera High Dynamic Range Imaging capabilities. The new flagship of the Pentax line replaces the K20D, and although it has a similarly-sized 14.6 CMOS chip like the K20D, this isn't a simple rebadged incremental upgrade. The K-7 is a brand new camera, with HD video capture, and a host of other new features and functions....  > Read more

Quick look: Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3
Panasonic's newest ultrazoom is pretty close to being a perfect pocket point and shoot.

I'll admit it, I've been a fan of the Panasonic's pocketable double-digit zooms since the original Lumix DMC-TZ1 with its big owl eye of a Leica DC lens back a few years ago. And the newest Lumix in this lineage, the DMC-ZS3 with its 25-300mm equiv. 12x Mega Optical Image Stabilized Leica DC optics, 10.1 megapixel still output, 720p HD video capture with stereo audio, 460K dot 3-inch LCD, and a host of other features is pretty darn close to being a perfect pocket point and shoot digicam. ...  > Read more

For years, I’d been meaning to send a note to a specific photographer whose work has had a profound impact on my career, life, and overall philosophical outlook. And it was one of those things that always seems to get pushed into the perpetual tomorrow pile. The problem being, of course, that tomorrow never comes....  > Read more

Long before DMCA, IPTC, or C&Ds to bloggers and takedown notices to their ISPs, is one of, if not, the earliest examples of copyright warnings from the 16th Century, reports Quirk Books "Secret Lives of Great Artists" (© 2008 $17.95 ISBN: 978-1-59474-257-6)....  > Read more

Sports Illustrated Slide Show: Artifacts from the not-so-distant past
This new book from SI offers up mounted slides from their archive as objets d'art and showcases the history of many iconic images from their collection.

Blog TechTock - by Jack Howard, May 4, 2009

Sports Illustrated Slide Show: How the Picture Tells Its Story ($29.95 USD), by Steven Hoffman (Intro by Terry McDonnell, Edited by Bill Syken) is a great new highly illustrated coffee table book showcasing the photographic legacy of this magazine in a very photocentric way. Chromes from the whole of the magazine's analog era are showcased uncropped in their slidemounts, marked up, taped, tagged and scrawled upon, alongside eventual (and oftentimes repeated) crops and treatments in the pages of the magazine and SI books and special publications....  > Read more
