NJ-based pro Tom Sperduto talks photography, philosophy, personal projects, self-promotion, and more in this episode.

By Jack Howard

June 10, 2009

Tom Sperduto is tireless in his career as a photographer. It seems like if he's not out on an assignment, he's making one himself. Or he's working on a promotional campaign, or heading off to workshop as a student, volunteer, or instructor. Tom spent a few minutes talking with us before heading out to teach a workshop down in Maryland.

I've known Tom Sperduto for a long time, and I invited him on the show because I have always been impressed by his drive and determination and continual growth of his photographic ventures. We talk about photography, philosophy, self-promotion, fly-fishing, the importance of personal projects for professional growth and more. Tom has a great philosophy as a photographer, and it's well worth a listen.

3 things Tom Sperduto always keeps in his camera bag are a Nikon 85mm f/1.4 lens, a stack of model releases, and spare batteries.

2 Photographers Tom suggests we check out right now are Matt Eich, and Howard Schatz.

1 dream assignment for Tom would be with the Marathon monks of Mount Hiei, Japan.
