Mike Kobal, based in the East Village, has jumped fully into SLR-based photo and video work for the web

By Jack Howard

June 24, 2009

Looking at the body of work on Mike Kobal's blog, it is startling to learn that he first started experimenting with video this past November. His videos, which very often combine SLR-based stills and video, frequently employ Lensbabies for a dreamlike effect.

You can check out more of Mike Kobal's photo-video work, including the pieces we discuss in the podcast on his blog.

3 things that Mike Kobal always keeps in his camera bag are actually four things, in a spare camera bag: Back-ups of his primary camera body, spare batteries, backup lenses, and backup memory cards.

2 photographers Mike suggests we check out right now are the legendary Lee Friedlander and Robert Frank.

Kobal doesn't have one dream shoot, he just keeps pushing himself on every assignment.

current and creative

i am so excited to see the work mike is doing, using the photography skills he's developed over a lifetime and now applying them to the ever popular video. the combination of the music and the video is very attractive and absorbing to watch.
