The What the Duck cartoonist joins us for a chat about his camera-toting comic strip characters, social media marketing, fans taking What the Duck plushie stuffed characters on road trips, and much more in this episode!

This week, we talk with Wisconsin-based Aaron Johnson, the happenstance cartoonist behind the popular photocentric comic strip, What the Duck.

Johnson talks with TechTock about the organic growth of the cartoon's fan base,  newspaper syndication, his casual approach to copyright and how advice on playing the Bass guitar impacts his attitude towards the cartoon's growth.

This was a very fun interview to record. Johnson has a great outlook on creativity and the creative process in general. And the woes that his creative duck encounters in dealings with clients should certainly strike a chord with creative types of all stripes.

3 things Aaron Johnson always keeps in his camera bag are a telephoto lens, a wide angle lens, and "one of those Rocket cleaner things" (A Giottos Rocket Air Blaster, in other words.

2 photographers Johnson suggests we check out are David Hobby and Scott Kelby.

1 Dream shoot for Aaron Johnson would be to shoot some portrait photos with Drew Carey.
