Yashica returns under new management
An old familiar camera brand is coming back: Yashica. Yashica brand name has apparently been snapped up by MF Jebsen, a multnational conglomerate, and is under its company JNC Datum Tech International, LTD, which opeartes out of China. The company has quietly unveiled a new line of Yashica-branded products.
A new Yashica web site has been launched showing a range of products that includes Yashica-branded compact digital cameras, camcorders and photo frames, as well as a small line of 35mm point-and-shoot cameras. Digital camera models include the slim 8MP EZ8032, which as a 3x zoom (35-105mm 35mm equivalent) lens with an f/2.8 maximum aperture%3B the EZ7032, which has the same features but a 7MP sensor (shown)%3B and the internal-zooming, 7MP EZ7033, which offers a 3-inch LCD monitor, macro focusing, anti-shake and face detection.
Kyocera, which marketed both Yashica and Contax-branded cameras, discontinued both product lines in 2005 due to declining profits. Pricing and U.S. availability for Yashica cameras and camcorders have not yet been announced.
