New tripod folds up, fits in wallet
In a mashup of oragami and camera support, an Australian company has just introduced a very clever tabletop support that will hold a compact digital camera, media player or PDA, called the FOZI tripod. It consists of three credit card-sized flat cut-outs that hinge together to form a small tabletop support. Not yet available in the United States, it costs $5.95 (Australian Dollars) each in Australia.

Timetale, an Australian design and manufacturing company, is offering a new way to take pictures with a digital camera or phone camera, so the photographer can always be in the shot. It also doubles as a media player stand for the iPod Touch or PDA. Using 3 credit cards in the “FOZI” arrangement, it is possible to check if a certain camera or player will fit.
It’s compact, and folds into the size of a credit card, to be kept in a wallet, purse, or handbag folded flat, always ready. It snaps into a firm 3D shape which can support a camera or player steady at four different angles.
The camera is placed on the tripod and the image composed. The self timer is used, say 10 seconds, to take the shot, with flash ON recommended.
It works for both centre and offset lens compact cameras and mobile phone cameras, by changing the position in the tripod. The FOZI Tripod comes in 6 colours.
The polypropylene folding “natural hinges” have been tested to last OK for more than 1000 full reversal bends, way beyond the normal bending.

A lot of travellers will now be able to take “anywhere, anytime” shots which are not possible without a tripod, if they have a “FOZI” with them. Night time shots or large interiors with long exposure times on automatic cameras will now be sharp, using a FOZI Tripod.
