Finding the Best Catadioptric Telescope for your Needs

Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescopes

A popular model of catadioptric telescopes, Schmidt-Cassegrains telescopes have become on the most popular models in the market, due to its versatility and compact size for easy transport. Most models are only about twice as long as the size of the aperture, so they can be folded up quiet easily and taken to another location for use. Many modern models are now computerized, making it easy to find that celestial body you've been looking for.

Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescopes

These telescopes are an alternative design to the Schmidt-Cassegrains, the main difference being the corrector lens being at the front of the telescope. This corrector lens is a highly curved spherical lens called a meniscus corrector while Schmidt-Cassegrains use spherical mirrors. This has made the corrector lens in the former much thicker and much less suited for seeing astronomical bodies in deep sky. However, these catadioptric telescopes are still relatively inexpensive and are still popular for those interested in astronomy.
