Owned now for a few months and it is fantastic! Total integration and built for the Sony - nothing will work this well. I returned some off-make gear that felt a little cheap, so glad I splashed out on this - amazing bit of kit! Highly recommended!

Best flash for the A7iv?

I bought this for wedding photography. The deal breaker is I can't used the flash of camera unless I spend another $350 in a remote trigger. Sony as far as I know does not offer a hot shoe cord.

Not the best option

I also have the 28RM and they work wirelessly together with one as commander and the other as receiver. Perfect ttl metering, they are expensive but just work seamlessly with the Sony body.

One of the standout features of this flash is its ease of use. It's truly a plug-and-play experience with the Sony A9III. There's no complex setup required, making it accessible even for those who are new to flash photography. This simplicity allows photographers to focus more on capturing the perfect shot rather than fiddling with settings.

What really sets the HVL-F60RM2 apart is its capability to maintain full power output even at extremely high shutter speeds, like 1/80,000th of a second. This is a significant advantage over many other flash systems, which often struggle to deliver full power at high speeds, resulting in underexposed images. This feature has been particularly useful in my photography, allowing me to capture sharp, well-lit images even in bright sunlight or when I need to freeze fast action.

Using this flash has also enabled me to experiment with different lighting techniques, such as bouncing the flash off walls to achieve a softer, more even light. This method has helped me create stunning portraits and high-fashion looks with ease.

However, I did encounter a minor hiccup initially. The flash came with firmware version 1.0, and I had difficulty updating it on my MacBook Pro. The solution was to install a specific driver on my MacBook, which then allowed the firmware update to proceed smoothly. Since updating the firmware, it has been smooth sailing.

Overall, my experience with the Sony HVL-F60RM2 flash has been overwhelmingly positive. It has not only improved the quality of my photos but also made flash photography much more approachable. I highly recommend this flash for anyone looking to elevate their photography with the Sony A9III.

i purchased gn46 wireless radio control external flash unit a few weeks ago, good quality item. as i have only used the flash a few times, it is so well made it comes out perfect. i have used it for fill in flash, it just works a treat. i also like the zoom features which works well with my camera.

Awesomeness

This new and unimproved version has a feature removed that?s a deal breaker for me and if you?re familiar with it it may be a deal breaker for you as well. Sony In there infinite unwisdom decided to remove the quick shift bounce function and if you?re not familiar with that, it allows you to take images with the flash on the camera in portrait/vertical mode without getting those harsh shadows that every other make of speedlights have and that includes the high end Profoto so needless to say I?m returning this disappointment pronto. Oh and one more thing, the display is cut in half from the previous two versions so it?s very small.

Buyer beware

Bought this a week ago and used for one large event of about 250 people. I was a Canon user for over 30 years, comparing to Canon picture quality this is not my choice. I bought sony setup for video filming, but I will not use for any event photography. Hope Sony is performing well on outdoor photography, but images does not give any natural look. Suffering to edit to get to some corrections made my time wast. Canon images what I expos I can sell straight away. But near future I will get my hands on with Sony.

Sony HVL-F60RM2 GN60 Personal review comment

Excellent, sturdy and confidence inspiring flash. It is large and heavy, not ideal for compact Sony cameras, but it is powerful and feature rich.
Wireless features are excellent, but I have used other makes with more user friendly disposition. I don't know why but very often I feel, while using Sony photographic equipment, as it was not designed by photographers.
Nevertheless, once you set up the flash in tandem with other off-camera flashes wirelessly, it performs flawlessly.
Extremely accurate light measuring in coordination with auto focusing in all AF modes, as far as I can tell.
I particularly like the rotating head of this flash.

Great solidly built flash gun

Of all the Sony and Zeiss equipment which I own, this flash is the only major disappointment!
If you shoot portraits holding the camera with your elbow above the camera, as recommended by Sony, opposed to with an elbow against your body, you can only bounce the flash off the floor, not off the ceiling. That is because the flash head only rotates into one direction. Now, If you are not using the battery grip, you can still take photographs by shooting in the way not recommended by Sony, holding the camera with elbow below the camera.. However, if you are using the battery grip, you have no choice. You just cannot use this flash.
I intended to use this compact flash mainly for fill-in, but as it happens I can only use it as a second flash for off-camera shooting now.
It is that kind of things that make me feel as if there is no photographer's input in design of Sony equipment. I sometimes think that some of the features and their design might be constrained by hybrid nature of the cameras, but not in this case.
It is otherwise nice compact flash, which I cannot use as I intended.

Nice flash but with major design flaw

Quick flash, recycles fast. Batteries last pretty long. Really easy to adjust power. All around best flash I have owned.
