I wasn't really sure why such a simple aluminum object could be $180.. especially when there are way cheaper ones on market. I bought it and almost returned it since my plans changed, but when I first tightened my camera on it, I was in love. There are some details with this bracket that are absolutely amazing: tightening the camera from the the side, extra bracket when using long lens, on bracket tool for tightening etc.. I love it!

It's more expensive then others but you get what you pay for.

After figuring out that “universal” L brackets are not really universal, I bought this L bracket for my Manfrotto Befree GT XPRO Travel Carbon Fiber Tripod. It’s a beautiful thing, and SOLID. The camera is not going anywhere, even with my 200-500 zoom.  It has enough adjustability on it to leave room  for the cable release door on my Nikon D750 to work. There is a little bar on the front for additional protection to keep the camera from slipping forward. Manfrotto stuff is proprietary. “Arca-type” is not the same as Arca-Swiss, so just know that. I gave it 4 stars only because it’s rather pricey. It’s high quality.

This is an excellant piece of equipment. However, there are PROBLEMS with using it on the Nikon D500. It must be removed to change the battery. If you offset it to accommodate the battery door, the extened grub screw is not long enough.
If you are content with a slight offset in alignment and removing it for batterry changes it is a solid piece of equipment. I use a gps unit which requires max battery.

Manfrotto MS050M4-Q2 L Bracket on Nikon D500

I recommend with reservations.  The bracket is solid.  The mounting to my D810 is loosey goosey.  Might work better with a smaller camera.  When mounted in the vertical position, only a very small screw locks the camera in place - DON'T expect this screw to hold if carrying on the tripod for even a short distance.  It does block the battery compartment, so purchase extra allen wrenches so you can remove and change battery.  The wrench is very small & has nothing attached for secure handling.  The instructions don't work for the D810 - won't  install as described.  Don't expect to take many pictures handheld with bracket attached - very clumsy and hard on your hand.  When attached it no longer fits in camera bag without modifications, then it is loose when not attached - a no win situation.  Value wise, I would only rate it as good if the price was ($)

L Bracket on D810

Few (reasonably portable) tripods can support a camera in portrait (vertical) position.  This bracket keeps the center of gravity on top of the tripod, in almost the same amount of time it takes to loosen the head, move it and tighten it back down - and your subject will still be where you had it before.  I leave it on all the time whether I'm using a tripod or not.  It makes an excellent way of carrying the camera.

Quick swap from portrait to landscape

This L- bracket is so versatile, I've configured it to "shoot the moon" as well as using it for macro shots on my desk or bees inside flowers.

It makes for quick change from landscape to vertical. Easy to use.
