I mainly use the legendary 50 summilux asph in my m9. Once I thought about buying a wide-angle lens that fits in my work: Light, small and as sharp as possible. I used to use one of my 35mm to do the work, but as you guys know, 35mm is anything BUT wide-angle. So I compared 21 elmar, 24 elmar, 28 summicron, and... Well I discover 24 elmar an INCREDIBLE HIDDEN GEM!! I think 15mm, 18mm and 21mm are in a different category, they are crazy wide-angle, I`ll have some distortions using them. I mean, they are excellent but the proportions of the subjects are abnormal. 28mm is not wide enough. In the end I think 24mm fits very well. Its a CRAZY SHARP even full opened. Its so small, light and well made. The colors are impressive, as good as Leica`s best. I know 24 is not a popular Leica format and thats the reason I wrote this review. When you consider to buy a 28mm or 21mm please consider this one too. Right now my package is: 50mm Lux asph; 135mm Apo-Telyt; 24mm Elmar and 18mm Zelss ZM (another hidden Gem). I have others but I never use them.

The Leica 24mm f/3.8 Elmar-M ASPH lens with its handy dimensions is distinguished by very high image quality and a very wide image angle - making it a particularly practical wide-angle lens. It is suitable for a very wide range of uses for everything from daytime reportage to landscape and travel photography.
Even at the initial f-stop of 3.8, contrast and detail rendering are already excellent. At the medium f-stops, the depth of field is so large that it can even reproduce entire scenes in sharp focus. That makes it excellent for use in combination with the snapshot mode of the LEICA M8.2.
