Photowalking with Joe DiMaggio:
Celebrating Chinese New Year

Joe DiMaggio

Event Description:

Join Joe DiMaggio, well-known photographer and filmmaker, for a unique Photowalk during one of New York City's liveliest and most colorful events, Chinatown's celebration of the Chinese New Year. The Chinese New Year attracts crowds of people each year and is celebrated over a two-week period in New York's Chinatown, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Manhattan.

This year's celebration will explode in an array of vibrant colors and provide a one-of-a-kind cultural experience; you will find lion and dragon dance troupes marching through its streets, and crowds enthusiastically enjoying it all.

This will be a day of excitement and exploration as you learn the art of street photography and action photography. You will have an opportunity to capture the spirit of this event as you photograph parades and traditional ceremonies as you walk the colorful and bustling streets of Chinatown. On this Photowalk, Joe will share his professional insights and specific tips to help you create more meaningful photographs, rather than just merely recording a place or scene.

As always, each Photowalk takes on a life of it's own, so come prepared for an adventure, be flexible and enjoy!

*Itinerary may be subject to last-minute changes due to weather or other circumstances.

Requirements:

Equipment: You want to go as light as possible—really! Bring one camera and one wide-angle zoom and one mid-range zoom (i.e., 10-22mm, 16-35mm, 24-70mm or 70-200mm) lenses. Bring plenty of memory cards and/or film, extra batteries, a cleaning cloth, some filters (polarizing if it's a sunny day), plastic bags for your gear if it's inclement weather, and on-camera flash or strobe unit.

Clothing: Dress casually and comfortably in layers, with good walking shoes, remember, this is a full day of walking and photographing. We will mainly be outdoors so wear/bring appropriate clothing for the winter weather-- hats, scarves, and especially gloves to protect your hands (cameras get cold!) and possibly hand warmers stashed in your pockets if that appeals to you.

Level: All levels, from Photo Enthusiasts to Aspiring Pros.
