I live in Anchorage, Alaska, and use this lens a lot in the Winter. It must work and focus down to -20 degrees. I pretty much only have "L" lenses because of this fact of where I live. The lens is obviously "fast" for a 300mm but what sets this lens apart, for me, is the remarkable image quality. I've taken some shots with this lens that seem to have an almost translucent quality... just remarkably clean and crystal clear. This is an expensive lens but I have never regretted spending the money. I feel exactly the same way with the Canon 500mm f4 I bought... and, again, have never regretted it for one moment. Hope this helps... Douglas Brown.

It took me awhile to finally pull the trigger on this lens, because of the price. It's my primary lens for wildlife shooting, and works surprisingly well with the Canon 1.4X & 2X teleconverters.

This is a wonderful lens. I had a borrowed one which i used for 18 months for wildlife photography and I was impressed with it from the first day. I was not sure about buying it due to it's weight but I am not sorry to now own it. It is sharp and fast and accurate. I am a small person and using it with a tripod seemed my only option. For the last week I have tried to take shots handheld and have had good success. The stabilizer really does an excellent job. Add that to the 2.8 and the shutter speeds that are available with low ISO's make it possible to work without a tripod. I would recommend this lens to anyone. It is one of Canon's best.

Great product, one of the best. Excellent combination with Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III. Great and fast focus, excellent friend to Extender 1.4X and awesome sharpness. Truly best lens I had in my arsenal so far.

Telephoto lens newly equipped with an Image Stabilizer enabling hand-held shooting for easier movement. The fluorite element and two UD-glass elements effectively correct the chromatic aberrations prone to occur with telephoto lenses. With the EOS-1v and EOS-3, the AF speed becomes the world's fastest. To reduce the overall weight and enhance portability, the lens barrel and many other exterior parts use magnesium-alloy. Also, the detachable tripod collar revolves smoothly and locks securely.
