So far, the camera has performed like a dream. I love the simplicity of multiple sublect focus and automatic macro lens determination. Haven't has it long enough to rate long term quality.

I like to be able to hold the camera in my right hand and be able to take the picture. The right side of this camera is narrower from front to back AND from top to bottom, making it difficult to hold with one hand. It wants to pop out of my hand rather than stay in it.

I searched all ELPHS before finally staying with the POWERSHOT 970IS. I am a long-time user of Canon Powershots, all the way back to the film SureShot camera. Viewfinder is currently the best of all Canon point and shoots, good enough to be a portable digital photo viewer. Neat features are added, like the Zoom and blur. Very sleek design, delightful to the touch. So small I carry it in case used to carry eyeglasses! But very powerful.
