Kirk Lens Collar for Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6E AFS ED VR Lens

A very well made replacement for the original Nikon lens collar. This was an upgrade from a Kirk KLP-450 QR lens plate. The plate worked OK, but I didn't like the fact it attached to the foot of the lens collar with a single screw. This is a very secure system. I cannot see any negatives for this product.

Unlike the original lens collar that came with my Nikon 200-500mm zoom lens this one is compatible with the Arca-Swiss attachment system and is much more stable, easier to attach, and quicker to attach to tripod and monopod heads such as with a Gimbel head. It also has a set of security screws that makes it harder for the lens to work loose from an attachment system and make an expensive trip to the ground. Nikon should have put this collar on the lens in the first place.

I have the new version of the 80-400 and this works great on it. So much better than the one that came with the lens.

Replaced the original Nikon lens collar, w/tripod mount. The Kirk version provides two screw holes for mounting an attachment plate, with a built-in Arca-Style base plate. The quick release action allows you to remove the collar without taking the lens off the camera, when mounted to the lens. Also provides maximum support and bracing due to double contact points with the lens. There is an extended brace engineered to support the lens for rigidity and added strength. It is more expensive than one would like it pay, following the cost of a lens that approaches $3,000.00, but well worth knowing you investment will be secure when you are lugging your gear around mounted to a tripod.

I love this new lens collar. The original one had play in it when mounted on my tripod - this one is rock solid. It also makes the lens easy to carry and shoot hand held. I highly recommend it. It's an excellent compliment to my Kirk mono-pod head that I use with this lens.

I think the price is very high, but the quality is definitely there. It is a better design than the Nikon collar. It is too bad I had to purchase this collar when the lens cost almost three grand.
