I bought these primarily for star gazing. I am very pleased with them. It is amazing how many stars I can see through them compared to just looking with my naked eye. The Pleiades look very impressive through them; my 10 year old daughter was amazed when she saw them through these binos. Also can get a good view of Orion's nebula.
I am pleased with the construction and the optics. I am not an optics snob and probably could not tell the difference between these and a $1000 pair, but they are definitely better than a $30 pair.

Great build quality (as usual for Nikon). Nice sharp views and brightness. I own several pairs of binoculars (including Swarovski's, which are superb), and these Nikons are reasonably priced, water-proof, fog-proof, comfortable to hold and bright and sharp in resolution. I would not take these binoculars on a long trip, however, as they are of a larger size that takes up quite a bit of space in a suitcase or pack, but for just about everything else, they will do the job nicely. I keep them in my car and use them for unplanned birding and wildlife spotting opportunities. I looked at the Pentax 10 X 50 Porro prism binocs (nice), but liked the wider field of view with the Nikons. These are very nice binoculars at an excellent price. I highly recommend them. The photo posted shows a pair of Nikon 8 X 36 Monarch ATB's on the left, Swarovski 10 X 42 SLC's in the center and the Nikon 10 X 50 Action Extreme's on the right for size comparison.

Excellent value for $. Nikon shoulder harness accessory is incompatable.

Bright, sharp and clear. Very well-constructed and excellent handling. Great for general use when a 7x or 8x is not enough.
