Comments about Nikon Nikon 8 x 40 Action VII, Weather Resistant Porro Prism Binocular with 8.2 Degree Angle of View, U.S.A.:
I selected the brand because I'm a second generation Nikon photographer (my mom was a photo-journalist and used only Nikon). I've had wonderful experiences with their cameras and lenses so I didn't even look at other brands.
I chose the 8x40 format because it provided a steady, hand-holdable level of magnification with a very wide field of view. This package has proven pleasant for daylight viewing of birds and wildlife as well as for stargazing in the evenings. I've been able to enjoy gorgeous views of Andromeda, Orion, the seven sisters, etc. from my back porch.
These are light, sturdy and resist the elements well. The optics are extremely sharp in the top 3/4th of the image with a little bit of mushiness in the bottom. They present an excellent value for the money.

I replaced a 20 year old Nikon with their newest lo-end binoculars. Excellent trade, the new set is lighter, wider field, and new, new, new.

Fantastic optical quality for the price. I can't get over how good they are for being so cheap. The eye cups may not work for everyone (eyeglass wearers) but they get the job done for me. I recommend you go ahead and buy these if you're still thinking about it.
