Comments about Leupold Leupold 3 - 9 x 40mm Rifleman Series Riflescope, Matte Black Finish with Wide Duplex Reticle:
The Rifleman is, in my opinion, designed to be an inexpensive way of putting the Leupold name on your Rifle. It neither does anything poorly or outstandingly. The optics are clear and crisp. There is no parallax adjustment and is permanently set at 100 yds limiting this scope to short to medium range shots. Adjustment of the sight requires the use of tools. When I say tools I mean a coin or cartridge rim to adjust the windage & elevation. There were a couple of annoying things about the scope though(as with the majority of Leupolds). There are no options when it comes to the sight. You can get Duplex and nothing else. There is no rubber eye guard on the the eye piece. It is an optional item for more $. Finally the one that bugs me the most, it comes with no caps. This means additional cost right away and how well were the optics protected during shipping. The Rifleman is not a bad scope nor is it a great one either. In the price/quality range you would be better served with a Nikon Prostaff or Buckmaster 3-9X40 or a Burris Fullfield II 3-9X40.Both Nikons & the Burris are available with ballistic plex sights as well as the standard duplex sight and have decent caps as well as rubber eye guards. I have owned all 4 and I can say that the Nikon & Burris easily meet the quality standards of the Rifleman. If you must have a Leupold then for the same money get a VX-I 3-9X40 which is available with a LR sight.
