Its an AC adapter, one end plugs into your scope mount, the other end plugs into a 110v wall outlet. Voila - no batteries necessary. Congratulations.

Fits firmly into my 2008 nexstar 8SE base connection without falling out or disconnecting. I don't know if Celestron fixed the jack on the telescope or the adapter plug?
