Comments about Nikon Nikon MC-30 Remote Cord with Trigger Lock:

I use this remote with my Nikon D300. I like how it works just like my primary shutter release switch. Hold it halfway and it autofocuses. I remember with my D80 IR remote, when I push the button it focuses itself then takes the photo. This remote will let you focus, see what is focused, then you can push it all the way for the release.

Comments about Nikon Nikon MC-30 Remote Cord with Trigger Lock:

Seems to work OK, but it sure isn't the best made item that Nikon puts it's name on. Considering the cost, put a little more with and buy a wireless unit.

Comments about Nikon Nikon MC-30 Remote Cord with Trigger Lock:

I will be using this tool primarily as a studio assist with ambient lighting and timed exposures. It works well once mounted the only problem I have is the mounting process is a little clumsy and time consuming but once mounted it is securely attached to the camera. There is a full moon coming and I plan to capture it... this will help...

Major issue using on the D-3
By JJ from Pacific NW on 5/23/2008
Pros:
Durable, Easy to Use
Best Uses:
Macro Photography
Describe Yourself:
Professional
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Nikon Nikon MC-30 Remote Cord with Trigger Lock:

Using as a cable release with the D-3, you cannot access the camera's menu, nor use the playback function after a picture is taken! This is a deal breaker for me. It is too awkward to unscrew and disconnect after every shot you take then want to check.

recommend the MC-21 extension cord also.

Comments about Nikon Nikon MC-30 Remote Cord with Trigger Lock:

Well I still don't see why somehow a regular old cable release can't be incorporated in these newer cameras but..oh well.

I bought it for tripod work and that will mainly be landscapes.

Replacement for lost item
By KenVerified Purchaser from Columbus, OH on 4/2/2008
Pros:
Durable, Easy to Use, Improves Function, Lightweight
Cons:
Awkward to attach
Best Uses:
Macro Photography, Studio, Tripod shots
Describe Yourself:
Professional
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Nikon Nikon MC-30 Remote Cord with Trigger Lock:

I use it most when shooting from a tripod with long telephoto/zoom lenses or in low light.

Preserves camera shutter release functions.

Due to the threaded barrel on the end of the cable, it's somewhat difficult to attach. However, once attached it's very secure.

Works great, but expensive!
By BryanVerified Purchaser from Cincinnati, OH on 3/6/2008

Cons:
Expensive
Best Uses:
Macro Photography, Studio
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:

Comments about Nikon Nikon MC-30 Remote Cord with Trigger Lock:

This is just your basic remote shutter release. Unfortunately, newer bodies no longer accept a normal cable release, so you are left using the 10-pin connector. This shutter release is durable and functions as one would expect for a piece of equipment from Nikon, but it is fairly expensive. A generic shutter release will do the job just as well for less than half the price.

Comments about Nikon Nikon MC-30 Remote Cord with Trigger Lock:

I have used this remote cord with a D300 camera, most recently just last night to record a lunar eclipse. The remote makes it easier to eliminate shakes and vibrations that will marr either a time exposure or a long telephoto shot which can occur by pushing on the camera (shutter release button) to take a picture.

When squeezing the remote's trigger, vibrations are blocked thanks to the remote's flexible cord and thus do not reach the camera, tripod, etc. Even though the cord was rather stiff in the below-freezing air temperature last night, the remote worked fine.

The trigger action is smooth. It has a good blend of sensitivity to trigger the "half-press" mode of the camera, with a longer throw needed to fire the actual shutter. There is little chance of an accidental shutter release.

In the distant past I have done a lot of tripod-mounted macro photography (with a film SLR and mechanical cable release). This remote cord will work very well for that kind of situation as well, and I look forward to using it inside as well as out under the stars and moon.

The cord is moderately expensive, but I was comfortable paying for it to ensure optimal compatibility with my Nikon camera and to get smooth operation.

Comments about Nikon Nikon MC-30 Remote Cord with Trigger Lock:

I am using my Nikon D300 and this remote cord to copy many of my old slides. The combination works well since I do not have to touch the camera body while exposing the image. My only complaint, and it is small, is that the cord is rather stiff. A more flexible cord would be easier to handle, particularly when setting it down.
