Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
The connection at the base of the remote unit separated after about two years of relatively light use. For my use - landscapes - I have no issue with the cord length. UNfortunately, the other non-Canon units are not any better.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
We do children's portraits at day-care centers. This unit would almost be perfect if it were 6 or 7 feet long. As it is, you have to buy the 25 meter(?) extension to control the shutter.
Ridiculous.
Unfortunately, we once bought Adorama's generic replacement, which was of very poor quality, was quirky to operate, unreliable and eventually fell apart. Stick to original CANON.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
This remote switch certainly helps makes it easy to click that shutter - my only comment would be that a longer cord would be even better.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
I use this product to prevent camera shake. Also, there is no way for me to use bulb without it.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
So far this has worked great.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
I've used this remote with the 5D MkII on a tripod for long exposure shots. I've also used it for normal shots. It is a must for macro. With a non-IS lens, adding this and a tripod will definitely improve the quality of photos.

I have heard about issues from the lease expensive units. Canon uses reliable switches and connectors. It functions just like it should from Canon, reliable.

Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
A must have for taking time exposuresUsed the remote switch when photographing star trails and painting with light. Without the remote switch I would have had to pack my equipment and gone home.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
Having cancer, I want records of how my skin is reacting to chemotherapy. I find it very difficult to hold one hand (subject of photo) at a precise distance from the camera, look through the viewfinder and with the other hand press the photo button -- it's a matter of being a contortionist.
A second problem with this is that although the camera is on a mini-tripod, as I contorted to use my other hand to take the photo, I'd move my target hand out of focus or off to the side of what I wanted to photograph.
With the remote switch I can set up my target hand, put eyeball to viewfinder and comfortably take the photo with the other hand via the remote switch without moving my target hand out of focus or out of position.
I also appreciate that the remote switch allows a two-level depression, same as the camera's button. Pushing it half-way activates the autofocus and exposure setting, then pushing it fully takes the photo. Thus, looking through the viewfinder I can be sure that this macrophotograph will be in focus.

Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
Bought this primarily as a "must-have" tool for landscape and macro photography, but have found it to be very useful for the many other kinds of phtography that I do. It is well-made, easy to use and so helpful. There is a great improvement in the image quality of the pictures that I've taken with this, especially when coupled with a tripod and the mirror lock-up function. This is most definitely a worthwhile investment.

Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
This is a decent Remote, its larger and more pricier than my Nikon MC-DC2 and almost double the price for reasons unknown to me. At this price, it should have the button on the edge of the remote like the old Nikon MC-30. Made it easier to use. This I am always feeling for the button. It works good, and is not uncomfortable, but could of been better and it could definitely be cheaper.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
Works fine. Does all it's supposed to do. No negatives here.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
I got this for shooting a Hawk's nest in Riverside Park in NYC. It does the job and will be an asset anytime you want to minimize the possibility of camera shake.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
Looks and works just as discribed and so far very happy with this purchase.

Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
I had an off-brand version of this and it worked OK for about 3 months. Then (the off-brand) started accepting only the half press to focus but not the full press for shutter release.
The Canon version is working very well although I have not had it as long as the off-brand version yet. The construction of the Canon is better. Better cable, better connection point. I do find that I mistakenly tend to slip the button into the forward, locked, position if not careful. That results in multiple exposures being fired until you figure out what you are doing wrong and slip the button back to unlocked.
Another minor point is that the cable connects at a right angle such that the cable itself points forward toward the lens. This would be a good direction if you are standing in front of the camera to photograph yourself. Most of the time I am behind the camera and I want the cable coming back towards me. Not a big problem though.
One other item is that it doesn't have a built in clip or other method to help attach it to a strap, the camera, or whatever else when you aren't using it. This means that it tends to dangle a lot and might put added stress on the connection point. I could probably rig something up that would let me clip it onto whatever else is in the vicinity.
Overall, it seems to be very good, and probably a good idea to get this rather than an off brand.

Works like it's supposed to,you can just push the button for a single shot or set your camera to bulb and you can either hold the button or press button and slide it forward to lock it in,so you don't have to hold it,great for astrophotograpy.some people complain the cord is too short but it works just fine for me.

Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
I own two of these units. One is my primary and the other is my backup in case of damage or lose. I have had no need to open the original box of my back up unit, and I have many thousands of releases on the primary.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
Main use is to avoid camera shake with slow shutter speed and telephoto use at low light. It will also allow me to watch fireworks and snap from a distance.
I like the lock future for holding the shutter open.

Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
Thi is about useless item I have ever seen!! What are you going to do with a 2 ft cord? If your shooting Dad & Mom and kids, you need to work from camera to kids, and 2 or 3 feet won't cut it 10 feet yes 2 feet NO. Maybe you could cut it and make a bolo tie for photographers.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
Use this unit for lightning shots at night, product photography and macro photography.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
Simple easy to use product.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
Whenever I need a tripod to keep the camera rock-steady, I attach the remote. It attaches easily and securely, and has a long wire to keep your shadow out of the frame. It has an exposure lock that allows very long exposures while you enjoy a cup of coffee.

Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
I have small fingers and still having difficulty in removing this remote switch from my DSLR. I think the locking mechanism is not easy and simple to operate. But it's just me.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
The third party adorama version breaks VERY EASILY. If you want to save money, buy the Canon, or you'll end up going through two 3rd party versions, then finally buying this one - the expensive route that I already took...
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
I primarily use it for shooting night city-scapes without filters as I want the shot to look like what I see, not what minupalations can do.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
Meets all of my expectations. Performs as expected. I only wish the cord was a bit longer. Some of the off brand products offer longer cords but reviews citing poor quality and durability steered me toward the genuine Canon product. I am satisfied!
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
Just plug it in, works fine. A must have for lightning and night shots.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
I control the shutter (bulb) and use the camera in a prime focus mode connected to my 10" telescope
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
I expected a little heftier unit from Canon, especially for the price but the product does work as advertised and I haven't had any issues with it but I'm a pretty tame user when it comes to stuff like this. This is a "must have" for slow shutter speeds IMO. I use mine on the 5D.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
Lightweight yet well made remote for my Canon 40D. Works great for shooting macros when using the tripod. Would be more reasonable at half the price as others have said but I expect it will last as long as I need it and it is the easiest way to shoot when a tripod is needed. Feels much more durable than the cheap clone that I bought first. Adorama had the best price and delivery for genuine Canon product.

Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
Great remote for the price. The only minor issue is it's durability. It seems like it will need to be replaced every 2-3 years from wear and tear.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
This product allows me to take long exposures of stars, nebula and planets.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:

Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
A must have item for studio work. easy to use easy to work with. Makes life a lot easier to shoot studio work
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
Performs very well with my 40D. I should have bought this sooner. If you use a tripod often for long exposures, get this. short timers on newer cameras work better than nothing, but this works great.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
Arrived super quick and worked the first time out of the box.. great item, a must for studio work
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
NEEDS TO BE COMPATABLE WITH BOTH THE REBEL LINE AND THE 40D SERIES. MUST CARRY TWO----
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
Worked great and did the job.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
This is a must to have if you want the most your camera has to offer in respect to action shots. Also works great if you want to get a group shot and you want to be included. The cord is short and that works well for action shots but by purchasing the extention cord you can also be included and alleviate the problem of setting the timer and running to get in place.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
Great switch - love it
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
I mostly use the release for macro and table top set-ups, but it would come in handy if you were doing time exposures or self-portraits. you would need to buy the extension for self-portraits cause the cord is pretty short.
it seems a little expensive to me for what it is, but all in all it works...that's what counts!
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
Very Good. A must have for slow shudder speeds. Great for getting good movement in your photographs.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
It does what it is intended for. Great for any shot that you have time to set up for minimizing camera shake.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
I use this remote with my Canon 40D and it works exactly as advertised!

Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
It funcions as designed but needs to be a true remote,...it's too short and for another [$] u can have 30 more feet,...why not make it a true remote at that price OR LESS!!!! The accessories add up fast but their value drops just as fast once u own them,....especially if you're trying to sell any.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
for shooting product shots under limited lighting you need the ability to keep the shutter open for long periods of time. for those who don't need the features on the more expensive version, but just need a way to remotely release the shutter, this unit does the trick.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
This product is an absolute essential for macro, still-life (with mirror lock-up), telephoto photography (non action/sports) and much studio photography (product/pack shot etc)[...] Mirror lock-up does not work effectively when using the self timer (or at least, on the EOS 5D it doesn't) when the shutter is tripped, almost immediately after the mirror swings up permitting vibration to effect the exposure.

Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
Due to its short cord, this accomplishes nothing that can't be done with the built-in timer. For what it costs, a 10-12' (three meter) cord should be standard. That's an absolute necessity for group shots without an assistant, and for including the photographer in the photo. Other manufacturers understand this, and some include cheap, wireless remote capability, even in their bottom-end consumer bodies. Canon, you really dropped the ball on this one.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
Works like an extension of the shutter release on the camera. Gone is camera shake for telephoto shots, close ups and bulb exposures.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
Works great for slow shutter speeds.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
I used it on 4th of July for taking firworks shots and it worked great.

Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
Very easy to use, especially when you want a good, steady picture. The one downside is, you would think the extension cord would be included. BUT then again, everything Canon makes is a bit pricey!
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
I could use a center located button with a longer overall handle to use it "upside down". Some occasions call for the control cable to drop down instead of in front of my face at the camera.

Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
The wired remote switch works fine. It is nice to be able to mount the camera on a tri-pod and hook up the remote switch and be able to capture steady pictures in low light using a slow shutter speed and no blur.
Comments about Canon Canon RS-80N3 Remote Switch for many EOS Cameras:
This remote works great on my Canon 30D!
