Imperative as a camera stabilizer. Huge difference in handling.Must be removed to get at battery and card. Slightly clumsy to reattach.

Comments about Leica Leica Hand Grip for the D-LUX 4:

Perhaps a bit costly, but I find using it has two distinct advantages. First, it provides/promotes a secure grip on what is otherwise a small and somewhat slick-finished camera.

The second advantage is less obvious - and some have even found it a disadvantage. The base of the grip covers the battery/card access door on the bottom of the camera. As a result, the grip must be removed (or, I merely swing it away w/o completely unscrewing) for that access. The hidden advantage is that the grip base acts as protection for the lightweight/flimsy access door which is probably the least well-engineered part of the camera.
