I received the Canon 50 for Christmas and along with it received extra batteries and other items. You don't want to be caught without a spare. Nothing is worse then being at the right place and having your camera and ready to shoot and notice your have a low battery. Be smart carry a spare, oh and make sure you charge it. Trust me, on my old camera I thought I had a charged spare.Oops...won't do that again.

I like the Canon batteries better than the less expensive replacements. I've purchased several of the cheaper replacements and although they work fine, they don't have the staying power of the Canon batteries. I rather carry one Canon battery as a backup than three of the cheaper ones.

This is the battery that comes with the Canon 40-D camera. The battery lasts for over 300 pictures. Money well spent!

I noticed that my original battery was not lasting as long as I needed because I was shooting more pictures at each outing. It was time to invest in a back up battery. No sense fooling around with the clones or off brands. Too many horror stories about them. Spend the money and don't look back. Just keep shooting.

I have read some posts and reviews advising against "third party" brand batteries, so I always stick with the proprietary battery in all my photo gear. This battery performs very well, I have noticed that my Sigma 150-500 OS lens demands a considerable amount of power for its powerful image stabilization. I would not take chances with a third party battery while operating this big lens. All in all, it is worth the expense. I have not had my three BP511A batteries long enough to comment on the durability.

I am not rating this individual purchase because I only recently received it. My previous experience with an original Canon battery pack is excellent. It held a charge through many, many pictures and recharged over and over. It had a useful life of 4+ years, and still functions as a little backup. As the first Canon battery began showing its age I purchased a 3rd-party battery from Adorama. What a frustrating waste of time and money! It offered a very short life between charges and after a few months no longer will charge. The aged Cannon provided more usefulness during the same period. Now I am back to a Canon original and trust that it will be as good as the first.

I date my batteries when I buy them and made the mistake of buying aftermarket batteries. I know Canon doesn't make the battery but i'm betting that they are made to Canon specs so they perform better. 4 year old Canon batteries are still alive, and one of the 2 yr old aftermarkets are already dead.

I have lot of generic batteries; some do a good job others don't. So I keep a lot of back up batteries just in case. I use the cheaper batteries for small jobs but for large weddings I don't want to take chance of running out of power so I use the Canon batteries. I know they will give me reliable service. They may cost a lot more but if you are doing a high end shoot, you can't afford to loose a shot because of a bad battery.

I've learned the hard way. The 3rd party "equivalents" look good on paper but consistently fail to perform when you need them. This is especially true once the battery ages. Canon batteries continue to perform long after the competition fails. When my camera needs a fresh battery is not the time to discover that the backup failed to hold its charge. In such a situation the few bucks that were saved a couple of years ago mean nothing.

I often use my Canon Pro1 when I am travelling. The genuine Canon batteries allow all day shooting. Third party can have unreliable charge life.

I've used some off-brand batteries in the past that would not come close to the performance the OEM batteries have. For me, I didn't even consider using anything but the original Canon brand battery. It's just not worth it when you're shooting professionally to have a battery you can't rely on.

I use it as a spare battery for my hiking trips. Two batteries were enough for a 4 days trip in Arches National Park, UT in a late November. It fits the camera much better than non OEM batteries, and finally I feel myself safe, while using OEM batteries.

They last at least 1000 shots, I carry 2 spares all the time. I cannot recharge them in the field and the camera does not have a "dead battery" setting that takes pictures!

I’ve tried to be frugal and save money, but this is not the time! When you need your equipment to perform consistently under various climatic conditions, only buy Canon batteries. I bought four generic batteries, of which only one retained a charge somewhat comparable to any of my Canon batteries, the other three died a quick death. You get what you pay for!

Compared to third party batteries that I've purchased and used the Canon brand batteries are superior quality. Don't believe ads that
claim 1390 (or more) mah in a battery housing that is the same size as the Canon (or other name brand),
it isn't physically possible!!! You get reliable
stats and a reliable battery with the Canon, it is more than worth the extra cost.

I've got three of these and the oldest dates from 2004. This battery is wearing out--fast to discharge and/or doesn't take a full charge.The other two (bought in 2005 and 2007) seem new. However, I've got three other Power 2000 batteries (non Canon brand BP-511s) that are also working great and they seem to hold a little more charge. I'm not sure there is any difference between the Canon brand and the off brand. Adorama sells an equivalent battery for [$]; Canon wants [$]for theirs; I'm buying the off brand.

I haven't kept track of the number of photos I've taken per charge, but this battery lasts all day even if I'm shooting a lot. I always carry a back up battery, but haven't needed it yet. This is even being out in -10 degree weather. I like to stick to the same brand battery as the camera brand. It seems to be a lot less headaches as far as fit and reliability. I've been happy with this brand of camera equipment since 1972.

We have two of these batteries and have been using them in our camera for over four years. Only now, are they beginning to lose their ability to retain a full charge. I am excited to be able to buy replacements. We have shot several thousand pics with them, and we feel that we have difinitely gotten our money's worth.

I am a professional photographer who owns at least 5 or 6 of these batteries. Each one lasts through two or three 4GB CF cards in prime conditions. I've also tested the battery in temperatures as low as -10F and even at this extreme, I still get a full 100 shots or so before it needs some warming. The batteries are surprisingly small and light for holding such a long charge.
