This is something I wish I had purchased earlier, even though I would have undoubtedly paid more. I really needed the vertical shutter release for my 5D. Without it, holding the camera for verticals was inelegant at best. It also adds great balance to the 5D, it feels more like my 1D mark III in my hands, making it more comfortable.

It has only been off my 5D once, when I took the body to Canon for the mirror fix, I plan of leaving it attached always.

Simple and fantastic piece of accessory. Better handling when shooting portraits. Especially when using 85 1.2 lens. It helps to balance the weight of the heavy lens.

The battery grip arrived in a timely manner and was easy to install following the directions. It is a bit bulky and heavy, but it is a great trade off for the added battery life and the ability to rotate and shoot with the intuitive controls. Have not taken it of my 5D since I got it.

I have been using this as much as I can since I bought it. Every time I use it, it works really well. I definitely recommend getting this one (better than the plastic ones) because you're definitely getting your money's worth. Its easy, durable, and very helpful. Having the shooting button on the battery grip is a big help. If you are going to use all AA batteries, you have to get some powerful ones for it to work. I just use 2 canon lithium batteries and it works perfectly.

I am glad I finally got it, I had many many moments where I wished I had it, but I was waiting for a better price. So I was watching this product for a long time and got it now for a great price @ Adorama. If you are serious about your photo work, and need your camera to be versatile for your photo situations, get one you be glad you did!!

I purchased this grip to facilitate vertical shots. It arrived without directions for attaching it to my 5D, but Adorama did try to help by faxing directions to me.However, with the grip attached for several days, the 5D was dead as a doornail--just as we were approaching Yosemite National Park. I almost died, too. However, I removed the grip and, using the same batteries, the 5D has been fine ever since. I have just returned home and I'm planning to return the grip, hopefully within a day or so. What a disappointment.

Changing batteries on my 5D costs valuable time and photo opportunities.
I haven't run out of battery power since purchasing the battery pack with the back-up AAs. I also like the feel of the camera with the grip...more like my Mark III. It does increase the weight as well, however, to be more like the Mark III.

I personally really like the battery grip. It gives you extra confidence knowing that you can snap and not have to worry about the battery shutting down on you. It's easy to add to camera and it gives you a great little hiding spot to keep you battery cover that is on the camera in case you decide to take off the grip (which I don't think that you will).

One of my favorite cameras that I own is the Canon EOS-3 with the battery grip. It is VERY comfortable.

I bought this battery grip to couple with my new Canon EOS 5D.

It is equally as comfortable and equally as functional. The buttons mimick perfectly the buttons used on the camera body making this a very effective part. You can turn your camera body to shoot in a profile format without having to twist your wrist all day to do it. Simply turn the camera in your hand and hold it as you would normally and the buttons are right where they should be.

This is very effective and very comfortable for all day shoots. Not to mention it gives your equipment a more professional appearance.

This unit also allows the use of AA cells, so in an emergency, this is an excellent feature.

I was concerned that it would add weight and make the camera clumsy. It does neither. The added battery life and easy gripping make this worthwhile, and make the amateur look like a pro.

Overall not bad. Helped balence out the camera body with larger lens. Extra battery helps out when you are in a 3erd world country with limited charge time.

I take a lot of portraits and the grip is great. I would not want to use it for this purpose without one. I have had one on all my different SLRs for almost twenty years.

Wow, is all I can say for this battery grip.
It has been on my camera since I bought it.
I have never run out of battery power or had to use back up batteries. Definetly a must for the Canon EOS 5D.

For me, grip always the best way to have less worried about juice run out when the shot come up. as a wedding and event photographer, it is very important to have everything ready when you need them. if you just out have fun with family and friends I would take grip out since it give you less weigh to worried about.

As with most Canon products the Canon BG-E4 Battery Grip build quality is excellent. The buttons are perfectly placed. It detaches in seconds though keep the original camera's battery lock safe. It also adds balance to the Camera. The added weight also helps in keeping the camera steady. I seem to take a lot more exposures now i have the grip and use the camera more, mainly due to having a greater duration of power. [...]

Excellent addition for the 5D. I too had the battery life last for well over 2000 shots. You can't pass that up when you soot events or weddings. The vertical trigger is the most used button on my camera. It all so adds some heft to the camera. I have large hands and that is indispensable.
