It helped me in keeping my camera better aligned for portraits. I feel a better grip of the camera. Initially I had doubts because its cost, but after been using it for several months, I would say It has been certainly one of the best investments I made for my camera. I would not buy a camera without it.

I've been using the battery grip for about two months now and am pretty impressed with it. In addition to the obvious help with extra battery power, the improved ergonomics with heavy L series lenses is substantial. On both my 24-70 and 70-200, the balance is much improved - I didn't realize what I was missing previously. I find myself shooting hand held more comfortably than before. The vertical shutter button is great - really helps out with portrait oriented shots. All in all, I'm happy with this product and recommend it. Just wish it was less expensive.

Let me preface my comments with this: I put a grip on all my bodies that accept them.

I don't have particularly large hands, but I've always felt most comfortable shooting with a gripped body. Therefore I don't buy a body without purchasing the matching grip.

I have dappeled in third party grips on some bodies and been very, vey unhappy. So I will also only purchase the Canon grips.

Perfect, no. It still isn't as solid as if it was part of the body and I think a solid L-Bracket really helps out. And it does make it difficult for smaller camera bags.

To me, the camera balences better, the additional batter capacity is an absolute necessity, and (since I also don't use neck straps) it's essential for any hand strap.

Two important things to note that weren't clear when I ordered from Adorama: 1) This grip comes with the AA battery tray, no need to buy another. 2) This grip doesn't come standard with a hand strap that ties the grip to the camera body. "If" the mounting screw broke while holding the grip in portrait you could catch camera via the strap. Without a strap you just had a very bad day!

Plenty of battery power with the capacity for two or the adapter for the AAs. The grip provides excellent balance with the Canon 70 - 200 IS L lense. I gave a rating of four for the price. I toughed it out and paid anyway since I have already invested in high quality camera equipment. Go Canon!!

I received my 5D and 24-105 lens with great joy only to find it very awkward to manipulate the zoom ring on the lens, which is very close to the camera body. When I added the grip, I found holding the camera to be much more balanced and all the functions on the lens to be easier to reach. Having the added battery power is a huge plus. I really would not want to use this camera without the grip.

If you have the Canon Mark 5D Mark II, you have big (high quality) L series lenses. These are heavy. I mainly use this grip to balance the weight and volume of the camera (very difficult to hold without it). And the super long battery life is really nice as well. I haven't recharged yet after several weeks of shooting!

A must have for the professional. The AA battery cartridge is a must for an emergency. Keeping you shooting if you rechargable batteries go dead.I like the improvemnet over the older versions.

I always use the battery grip with my 5D MkII. I also use an xti with the battery grip for backup. Very useful for verticle shots, as well as extended battery life.

I love my BG-E6 Grip, it stays permanently attached to my Mark II. To have double the battery power is just what i wanted.
The grip proved to be just a little less comfortable than i was hoping for. It still makes the camera much easier to operate and also prevents me from getting all those fingerprints on the screen which i used to get handling the camera without the grip attached.

Had a BG-E2N on my 40D, bought a 5D and thought I could live without it, but quickly realized I couldn't. Vertical controls are awesome, having an almost unlimited amount of battery power, and balancing better with larger L lenses. Definitely a must have. Its also made of magnesium unlike the cheaper plastic ones for the XXD and Rebel cameras.

It fits tightly to the body, without cracks or spaces between the grip and the bottom of the camera. Having room for two batteries is great.

However, the price is a detriment and questions the actually necessity of the product, especially since other grips are cheaper.

Having been using for week, I tried to shoot the 5D II without the grip and found like I was holding a missing-part camera. Since the grip played a little, I filled the batter compartment cover slot with a piece packing foam, then the camera body and the battery grip fit even better each other. However, the Canon hand strap E1 does cause some difficulties to reach the buttons. Finally, 5D II camera, BG-E6 battery grip, 2 LP-E6 batteries, Kirk PZ-129 ball head plate, 580 EX speedlite, and a 2-lb lens such as the 24-70 f/2.8 is a pretty heavy set to carry around.

If you shoot a lot of pictures in portrait format, this is an essential piece of hardware. It gives the camera a solid grip and a full set of controls (shutter, AE lock, small dial, etc) when holding it on its side. The extended battery life (when combined with a second battery) is great. I can shoot all day without worrying. It also helps balance out the camera when you have a large lens attached.

That being said... It's built solidly, but does not feel as much a part of the camera as I would like. If you are trying to stay light and compact, this is not for you. It completely changes the way the camera hangs against you, so if you are toting a large lens, it becomes very uncomfortable.

Final verdict... I would still buy it again in a heartbeat.

I have added the battery grips to all of my Canon cameras (4) as it improves the balance and handling plus the placement of duplicate controls for verticle use. Only wish we could get the second battery to fill out the grip but it will come eventually.

Easy to use and removes the fear of dead batteries on an important shoot. IS lenses use more power so it's a necessary accessory for me. On the 5D Mark II it adds more weight and size to an already bigger/heavier piece of equipment. If you are bothered by size and additional weight this may not be for you....I think it's great

The BG-E6 is the same style and configuration as the battery grip for my 30D but not interchangeable. Shucks! The only drawback I'm having is that I can't find another batterypack to fill the second space in the unit. I must say however, the single battery that came with the camera has been more than adequate thus far. I have shot over 500 photo's in the week that I've had the 5D Mark II and have only had to recharge once. Even then it still had a 20% charge left.

I wouldn't go without a grip on an on non 1 series Camera. It makes holding both vertical and horizontal shots easier, especially during longer exposures. The extra battery spot and the ability to use aa batteries in a pinch are priceless as well. It also adds a more professional look to the camera. I don't mind the extra weight a single bit. Only 4 stars because the battery door flexes a bit (though it is much studier than the cf card slot on the camera...it is magnesium.) the Battery door is a neat rear loading design instead of the side trey loaded design of my rebel grip. I like it.

I leave this on all the time. I like the feel of the camera with this on. Great for vertical frame shots. Works with one or two batteries installed. With two, extended life is a plus, especially with video which eats battery life.

All controls to hand with the camera in portrait mode - even works with only one battery in the compartment. With two batteries the camera power supply is extended excellently. Although the camera is more bulky with the grip attached, it is more solid and easier to work with. This is a definite "must have" accessory.
